I'm brand new here and I'm in a real fix. I'm looking at 3 cars in particular right now but I have one goal for performance in mind. I want a car that will run low 11's or high 10's. Now my three options are a 2000 Dodge Viper, an LS1 C5 Corvette, and a 2004 SVT Mustang Cobra.
2000 Viper Pro's
(1) RT/10- has a removable hardtop
(2) Closest to the performance #'s I am looking for
2000 Viper Con's
(1) EXPENSIVE! (to buy and mod)
2004 SVT Cobra Pro's
(1) Cheapest (to buy and mod)
(2) Breaks into the 11's with minimul bolt on's and a tune
2004 SVT Cobra Con's
(1) No removable roof pannel, t-tops, etc.
(2) Everyone has a Mustang!
LS1 C5 Corvette Pro's
(1) Has removable top
(2) Cheaper than the Viper
LS1 C5 Corvette Con's
(1) Furthest from the performance numbers I want to reach
(2) Mods are expensive

The Viper is a nice car and definitally will turn heads but I would rather spend a little less money and get something thats still a real head turner! The 03/04 Cobra's are some real beasts on the street but I know if I go cruising around town the average person is just gonna say, "ya another mustang!" and they don't have a removable roof pannel. (convertibles are out of the question). For the money, the C5 has the looks and has the option of coming with a removable roof pannel. I would really like to get the C5 but I don't want to spend more money for mods then I actually pay for the car itself. Can I break into the low 11's without a blower? What kind of mods would I need to reach this goal? I know if anyone is gonna be able to help me it's the people on this site. I thank all of you for your time and I hope to hear from you guys soon!
PS: Can anyone tell me if the SLP ZL7 Performance Pac is as good as they say it is. It claims to give your C5 Coupe 427 Horsepower. Anyone have torque #'s for this? What would a 427 Horsepower C5 Coupe run in a 1/4 mile?

Ya, everyone really does have a Mustang. It makes me so mad how easy and cheap you can mod the 03/04 Cobra's to just tear up the street! Any little thing you do to those cars boosts the horsepower and torque like crazy! Those guys break into mid 11's easy with a pully, catback, a good tune, and DR's!

They are junk. Buy a Z06, learn how to drive it and you can run 11 second e.t.'s with out any mods.
Thats what I would like to do, I just don't know what mods to do. In my original post I asked what mods I would need in order to get an LS1 C5 Coupe into low 11's or high 10's. SLP offers a package that is supposed to give the C5 427 horses. I just don't know how reliable the package is and where I would go from there.

GT Mustangs are great cars. Well built and a good deal for the money. You can't compare with a car costing twice as much. I raced Mustangs for many years in SCCA events and drag racing and they performed really well.
I have never seen a stock Z06 run 11's. Not saying they can't, but it's rare.
You will get tired of every other Mustang on the road wanting to race.

Throw in an upgraded clutch, DRs, a hardened output shaft, and maybe a shifter. You'll be in good shape at the track and on the street.
Depending on what heads and cam you choose, you can get anywhere from 400 rwhp to 500 rwhp. I went with ported/polished LS1 heads and a moderate cam, and ended up with 421 rwhp.
I never owned a 1972 Mustang. Never said I did. I had an '02 GT. Great car.
JRod? Read my post! I have never seen a stock Z06 run 11's. Not saying they can't, but it's rare.
I did, watch the videos and you will see a z06 run 11's, stock. Are you putting your 02 GT against a C5 and Viper and blown Cobra????? Please tell us how it compares?
I would rather stay away from blowers because I know the Corvette's have a high compression ratio and without forging the internals I could possibly run into problems in the future. If I can I would like to get to get in the lower 11's using other bolt on's and without Nitrous if I can. Thanks for the input though.

You stated the Mustangs were junk. Now you switch and talk about performance. What's performance got to do with your statement that they're junk?. Facts please. Why are they junk?
And for the third time I will state it's rare to see a stock Z06 run 11's, not impossible. You having problems reading or just comprehending?

I too have never seen a stock Z06 run 11's. I have seen video on the Internet, but that is not seeing one do it in person. I have seen many Z's run at the track and the majority of them are around 13.0, fastest one I have seen was a 12.6. Ok bolt on C5 coupe 11 second machine I will put my list of mods as follows. This is for the A4.
vararam
long tube headers
high flow cats
magnaflow mangnapack catback
dyno tune
3600 stall
373 rear end
hardened output shaft
BFG DRs
Also you are talking about a 427 for the C5 coupe, remember that engine with installation will cost as much as the used C5 does.
Its rare that a stock Z06 gets into the 11s but its been done by a few forum members. You have to be a really, really good driver. J-Rod and Ranger have done it. See link below.
Friend of mine has a nice 04 coupe. He's pushing 440RWHP and runs 11.5's on crappy tires......
His mods are more or less...
Vararam
Port/Polish Heads
Cam
Headers/Full Exhaust
Pulley
3.73 gears
3600 Stall TC
160 Thermostat
Dyno tune
....other small upgrades but that's the basics big HP mods. Not sure how much all that costs, I can only imagine.....
I'd bet you could get away with finding some nice used parts and save half of what he spent???
Throw some wider tires or slicks on there and he'd be right at 11 sec. I'd think.
