Sounds like a personal problem. Maybe J-Rod and a few others are just everyone huh? Or maybe you need to get out more.

1.) Buy a 2000 C5 Coupe or 2001 Z06 (you want the later model PCM).
2.) Buy an LS7 Crate Motor from GMMP in the fall of 2005- add the dry sump system. Upgrade tranny and Diff.
3.) Add a Vortech or Procharger Blower. Andy @ A&A will be happy to help .

Viper Killer in all Catagories and Less money.
FWIW.

It sounds like you want a car to go drag racing with. The C5 is not meant to be a drag car. IMO, if all you want to do is go fast in a straight line at the dragstrip, your best bet would be to go for the Mustang, or maybe a Camaro or Firebird. Those cars are more straight line cars, where the C5 is more of a car for all aspects of performance, including corners. To me the C5 is a drivers car. I'm not saying you can't drag race a C5, I'm just saying you'd probably get more bang for your buck drag racing with the Cobra.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I think the trail of broken parts strewn behind a C5 at a dragstrip would cost more than a trail of broken Cobra parts.

I bought my Z06 because I wanted a fun car that could carve a corner too. To me that's what the C5 is about. My Z06 will probably never see a drag strip. I'm not knocking the guys that take their C5s to the dragstrip, I'm just saying I won't be doing it with mine and I think (bang for the buck) there are other cars better suited for it than a C5.

Maybe it's just the fact that I think the C5 is a beautiful car and I wouldn't be able to force myself to hammer the hell out of one at a dragstrip. I dunno.

The same with a Viper. I think it would be a waste to buy a Viper just to take to the dragstrip.

(searching for my flame suit)
Your sig. pics entitle you to make the "Drag Racing " comments - in my book anyway.....

________________________________________ ___________________

My pro's and con's

2000 Viper Pro's
(1) RT/10- has a removable hardtop
(2) Closest to the performance #'s I am looking for

2000 Viper Con's
(1) EXPENSIVE! (to buy and mod)

2004 SVT Cobra Pro's
(1) Cheapest (to buy and mod)
(2) Breaks into the 11's with minimul bolt on's and a tune

2004 SVT Cobra Con's
(1) No removable roof pannel, t-tops, etc.
(2) Everyone has a Mustang!

LS1 C5 Corvette Pro's
(1) Has removable top
(2) Cheaper than the Viper

LS1 C5 Corvette Con's
(1) Furthest from the performance numbers I want to reach
(2) Mods are expensive

The Viper is a nice car and definitally will turn heads but I would rather spend a little less money and get something thats still a real head turner! The 03/04 Cobra's are some real beasts on the street but I know if I go cruising around town the average person is just gonna say, "ya another mustang!" and they don't have a removable roof pannel. (convertibles are out of the question). For the money, the C5 has the looks and has the option of coming with a removable roof pannel. I would really like to get the C5 but I don't want to spend more money for mods then I actually pay for the car itself. Can I break into the low 11's without a blower? What kind of mods would I need to reach this goal? I know if anyone is gonna be able to help me it's the people on this site. I thank all of you for your time and I hope to hear from you guys soon!

PS: Can anyone tell me if the SLP ZL7 Performance Pac is as good as they say it is. It claims to give your C5 Coupe 427 Horsepower. Anyone have torque #'s for this? What would a 427 Horsepower C5 Coupe run in a 1/4 mile?
Buy the Viper!! Sounds like that would be the ride for you!

I have a few clients with who have had both Vipers and C5 Vettes and they all say the same thing..the viper is no corvette. They are sloppy in the corners, the *** gets loose way to easy and is very unpredictbale. As far as I know you cannot get in and tweak the Viper ECU making it a bitch to mod. If I were in your position I would buy a Z06, get a good tuner to install a decent heads/cam package and send it to Shirl Dickey (SDRE) and have the targa top conversion done... Hell have SDRE build you a fat bg cube motor with a H/C package. Best of both world IMO. Wish I had the wallet for it

Buy a nice C5 in the mid $20s, add an intercooled Magnacharger with 5psi of boost($6700 plus installation and a new hood). And you will have 11's for around $33K and be very reliable for everyday driving...... The magnacharger at 5psi on the stock compression of 10 to 1 on the LS1 motor is very safe...

Just my .02.

The Vette would cost the least to go 10s. If your all about performance which I am...You got 2 options, TTI Stage X turbo 346 built motor or a Nitrous fed 346. The nitrous fed 346 is the most cost effective way to go 10s and its pretty easy if you ask me in a corvette.
Phil

The mininum needed to go 10s:
CCW Drag Package
3.90 Rear
Ram Clutch
Basic Bolt-ons with tune(headers, intake)
TNT 150 shot

A friend of mine just went 11.6 with the above package without nitrous. Basic Bolt-ons. You'll pickup .7-1.2 in the 1320' with a 150 shot at that stage. Oh and DO NOT RUN DRAG RADIALS....You'll be sorry....

Aw, c'mon George. You really think that's the best? I guess you're running a Vararam too.
