Tow, switch, labor = $570. I'm glad this isn't some Ford POS that I have to put this money into. I prefer to spend money on mods versus repairs.[/QUOTE]
Damn, wish I had read your post sooner! I could have saved you some $$! I just had the same problem with my ignition switch! Thanks to Bill, we tracked it down and I ordered a new switch from Fred Beans for $50. Installed myself after I had a locksmith cut it to fit my keys. Sorry I was late brother!

Share your story.....how did you track it down? I didn't think you could crank the engine if the security system went south.
My problem started as periodic and ended up very regular. When I would turn the key, the starter wouldn't engage. All the lights and guages worked fine and there was plenty of battery power. I would get a PCM 1631 code and my security light would stay on. I would clear the code and had to wait 3 minutes until I could try to start again. Usually then it would start, but the security light would remain on. I bought a new key, cleaned the contacts, and even cleaned all the grounds in the engine compartment. But, I had a feeling the ignition cylinder was worn out after 75k miles. So, I took a chance and ordered a new lock cylinder, had it cut by a locksmith, and installed it. Never had the problem again! When I had the old ignition out, I compared it to the new one. You could look inside and see how worn the contacts were. Seems they weren't making good contact with the resistors on the key!
