Installed a 5oz Tune Up Can in A/C System. Close hood and get to drivers side door to turn engine off and the windshield wipers are on and I can not get them to stop. The wiper switch is off but not the wipers. Turned engine off and restarted but the wipers are on with the switch off and the wipers do not stop.
What can this be???
HELP me with the ghost in my 98 coupe, please.
Thanks in Advance
Could it be related to the dealerships fix of the column lock recall. Maybe??? Only it was done months ago.
I am really p-ssed because I went to start and magically the wipers had stopped-Great only to drive 15-20 minutes from home and it started again on a sunny dry day. If rubber on wipers tear I would have had metal on glass. Wiper switch is 80.00 and Wiper motor is 120.00 this is a expensive pain in th -ss.

I had a similar problem a couple of weeks ago. It was intermittent though. Try cleaning the troughs under the wiper assembly all the way to the drivers side. I cleaned mine out and it solved my problem. Hope this helps.

I will try anything. This is the oddest thing and it has no sound reason to react this way with a system failure or wiper system interference

Could this be a result of the dealers recall on column lock? It was fixed months ago but there is something that had work in that area maybe?
My 1999 FRC had this problem many times. If you ever drive your Vette through an autowash the water cannot drain fast enough which will cause your controler box to be submerged in water. This will short out the whole system they will run on and off for a long time. I removed my wiper system tore apart my control box got the water out of it and spayed it all over with a water displacement lube. Then I sealed it all back up with silicon sealer and took it to the car wash. Nope didnt work this is not a water tight box. tore it all apart again cleaned it out sprayed it then I pulled the three black tubes that let water drain from under the wiper control box (they wont let the water drain fast enough no mater if they are clean or not) I have never had a problem since EVER .
I am having the problem with my 2002 with 20K miles on it that I just picked up! Glad I saw this thread. Where should I start first? I have no warranty!

That's a good point, why the heck are they there anyway???
Where is the wiper motor and how hard is it to get to?
I am sure the problem is the motor, I doubt this problem is caused by the switch because you should be able to giggle it and get them to go somehow. Will spraying the motor out with WD40 work?
Anyone have pictures on how-to take this apart?
I feel like fixing something, earlier tonight I disconnected my power antenna's power inside the trunk because I'm sick of looking like a remote control car when I'm listening to CDs.
The motor is hooked to the wiper arms it all comes out as one unit. First remove the black caps on your wiper arm there you will see a bolt remove it and pull up on the arm take both arms off. Then you must remove the plastic cowl cover. after that there are 4 bolts holding the whole system in. 2 by the motor and 2 more towards the middle of the window. now the fun part. you must wiggle the system out from under everything but don't force it by the window you can break a window very easy touching the edge of it. Unhook the wire harness. Once you get it out you can see the tubes in the corner simply pull them out. You might be able to use an air compressor to force the water out of the motor then spray some lube in it allot of lube, once electronics get water on them they will corrode lube everything well. then hold the system up buy the widow and hook the wire harness back up now have someone try the wipers with the switch be careful not to get you finger caught in the arm bars. If they seem to be working now your lucky put them back together. If you have to take apart the motor be careful and remember how everything fits.

You wiper motor controller board is wet because the windshield cowl drains are clogged with nasty trash!!! Been there! I had to take mine completly apart abd dry the circuit board.
Here are a few pictures of the drains. The flashlight beam is shining on the rubber udders that get plugged. There are "THREE" that need to be un-clogged. The area where you need to reach into:
What you will be trying to unclog:
This is a sample of the MUCK that you will be able to MILK out of the rubber boot:
Here is a really good shot of the drain udders on the bottom of the well.
If the water got deep enough to drown the wiper motor, there is a very good chance that you may have leaked some water into your drivers foot well and the carpets may be wet! I would check that out.
You may be lucky enough that the motor and board dries it self out!
There is an access panel inside the drivers wheel well that can be removed and you can access the udders fron there easily. You will need to remove the tire to get it off.
Good luck!
Bill
