I'm driving a 2000 convertible and have a problem with the key fob / keyless entry system. I've replaced the battery twice and had the fob checked at my local Chevy dealer. Best I can determine, the problem is not with the key fob.
After going through the process that is outlined in the owner's manual with regard to "learning" the fob, the device will lock and unlock the doors, for a few minutes. Then, it quits working. I've gone through the "learning" process several times, and the keyless entry system will not work.
Any ideas? Is it a defect in the key fob that the dealer didn't find, or is it internal to the programming within the car's electronic system?

FOB's die. I did all that too and had no luck. New FOB required. Also, do a search on FOB's and see what comes up. There are lots of threads about these things.
You can try two thing before you spend money on a new fob. First check the DTC codes in the DIC memory. See if there are any RFA codes listed The RFA circuit is grounded at the connection near the battery. Here is a picture of the ground. Remove and clean that ground and see if it helps.
Your ground wire will be hidden under the plastic tab to the upper right of the ground stud. I removed it from the stud to show the connection.
I had the same exact problem; worked for about 2 mins and would then die.....Got my 2nd fob out and it didn't work at all after not being used for a couple of months. ???? Replaced batteries, re-trained, etc. etc. Same results...mine would work for a minute or so; the second one was doa....(had the dealer check them too and they said #1 fob was faulty and #2 was dead) Followed Bll's lead as he advised here as well to no avail (Bill's a great help regardless; Thanks Bill!) then I bought one on ebay used. Guess what? did the same as fob #1 I had...worked after re-tranining it and then it would die. I could have tossed a brick at the car....anyway good charma comes around every once in awhile as the guy I bought the fob from on ebay allowed the return and I bought a brand new one from gmpartsdirect.com (much cheaper than a dealer (~$71 + shipping...call it $80) and it works great. Got to their site, put in the part number on the front page and voila! (GM PART # 10432147)
I don't get why these things die, but they do and 5 years after having the car, this is just one of those bs things that seem to come up with several of us.
