Problem after installing c6 shifter!
I installed my c6 shifter on my 2000 coupe on Sunday, at 1st everything seemed fine.. but the more i drove it the crazier it is to get back in 1st.. like when i go to shift it back into 1st it like locks, it doesn't want to go back in 1st.. im starting to worry and think something is wrong.. anyone have any ideas? It also gave me a similiar problem going to 5th kept going to 3rd.. noticed on the parkway on the way home.. but that could of been because iw asn't use to it
I was just playing with the car..
When the car is off and ebrake up i can go through the gears fine.
When the car is started AND NOT moving it seemed fine as well.
I just seemed to notice it when driving around town today... tomorrow morning I will go out test it when im moving and the car is COLD (when i 1st leave my driveway)
and I'll also keep driving and once its warm and see if it only does it when the car is warm AND I have been driving for a WHILE.
I have one in my 04, another friend has one in his 2000 and "vettenuts"(forum memeber) has one in his 02. None of us are having any problems that I know of. It sounds more like alignment of the shifter when installed.
Who did you get the shifter from? Did it come complete with base?
I will forward this post to "Vettenuts" to be sure he sees it.
Replacing shifters in the C5 is a no brainer and really can't be installed incorrectly. It's not like the shifters of days past, where you had numerous linkages to hook up. So I'm thinking something else is the problem.
I think I would check the basics first, tightness of fasteners, pin is still locked in the up position, etc. Since there is a little more effort, maybe a change in fluid would help with the gear changes. If it is when the motor is running or you isolate it to when driving, try pulling over and shutting the car down when the problem occurs to see if it still happens with the motor off. Wondering if your clutch is showing some signs of mileage and the higher shifter effort has made the issue more apparent.

The car has 33k on her.. It did not do this at all with the stock c5 shifter.
It started happening 3 days after installing.
Also this morning as I went to go out.. the car will only stay in 3rd and 4th.. it wont go in 2nd or 1st.. My guess is something is not aligned right, since 1st and 2nd are ont he same "track" ( just throwing it straight down from 1st - 2nd ) Bob is coming over my house after work and we are going to take it apart? Any suggestions on what to look for?
I PMed Patches and sent me some info on what to make sure everything should be tightened to and also to attend to what parts.
