Here is a pic of my C6 shifter installed in my 2001 C5. I modified the stock boot to fit the new shifter. The C6 **** has a lip and groove at the base. I took the top 1" off the boot turned it inside out and twisted a loop of hard wire compressing the leather into the groove. The **** is secured by a small screw at the base, unlike the C5 shifter. I see you are across the river in Vancouver. Actually, I work in the Van Mall area if you want to see it first hand.
Alan,
Wow, that look great! Thanks for the info, it's just exactly what I needed to know and more.
I work in downtown Vancouver, when it stops raining pm me. I would like to see that set up and talk to you about the C6 install.
Doug
I did something similar. I turned the original boot inside out, removed the glue in the doubled section, pushed the shift **** into it and used an o-ring to squeeze the leather into the groove on the ****. This also pulls up some of the extra length so the boot fits quite well.
I ordered the redline boots and asked for the shift boot one inch shorter. It fits great, you could even have it cut maybe only half inch and it would still be fine.
Alan,
What kind of shift **** do you have? Looks like it might fit the hand very ergo... Doug is a friend of mine and would like to see your shifter also. I just tried a Hurst today and liked the short throw but was very stiff action so would not buy that one.

I'm getting ready to order a new shifter boot from Redline and I need to know about how much shorter is the C6 shifter compared to the C5?
The Difference in height is about 3/4"-1" just as rileydawgg said.
FYI...
The fore/aft shifter travel is reduced to about 120mm (4.72") from 1-2, 3-4, 5-6 gears with the C6 shifter assembly in a C5 vette.
The stock C5 shifter measures around 130mm (5.12") from 1-2, 3-4, 5-6 gears.
If you are really looking for a short throw shifter...
The Hurst shifter w/stock shift **** measures around 78mm (3.07") from 1-2, 3-4, 5-6 gears. Yes, the hurst shifter is pretty stiff. In order to get a shorter throw shifter you will see increased efforts. It all depends on how short you want to go and how you want to trade-off the factory (easy) shift efforts.
Good luck,

Nice. That is a sweet option i can throw at my customer's when they inquire. I was not aware the C6 shifter fit into the C5, but now that I think about it, why wouldnt it!?
Maybe I will see you guys around the tracks this season!! I'm in either a red 99 Viper ACR or full custom 01 C5 with dual nitrous bottles mounted to the rollcage seen through the back window. The car will be Daytona Blue Metallic this season, not hard to find!! Honk if you see me!!
