Default Buzz behind driver's seat

Hi, I picked up a 98 C5 a few weeks back and am noticing a buzz behind the drivers seat. I'm guessing it's the fuel pump, she's got 95k on the odometer.

The buzz is most noticeable when I first start her up and when idling at a light. It virtually disappears at highway speeds.

Anyone have experience with this?

Thanks, I googled it and found that fuel pump noise is fairly common in the 97-98's. It doesn't really bother me too much, just want to make sure the pump isn't getting ready to fail.

Default pump

I noticed the same thing on my '98 when I picked it up and the dealer replaced it and it was quiet for a while but I can hear the new one from time to time. Just turn the radio up a few clicks... Apparently, its not a problem.

My 98 had the same issue. I complained about it when it was under warranty and they changed it out. It significantly decreased the noise.

When you are at highway speeds your fuel demand is greater and the pump is flowing more fuel vise having it returned to the tank via the fuel presure regulator.

Thanks, the noise doesn't really bother me so good to know that it's not a problem. Besides cranking up the stereo a set of straight pipes might also help

Mine does the same thing and has recently become a bit noisier. Might be time for a change.

Change the fuel filter first. The more restriction in the system the louder it is. BC

Thanks Bill, I'm going to try to do that this week. The filter is lot cheaper than the pump.
