Mine suddenly quit on my 98. Replaced battery and cleaned terminals in fob. Checked 5 fuses related to entry (27, 31, etc). Error codes on DIC are B2284H, U1255H, U1064H, U1016H, U1096H. No warning messages occurred. Any ideas for next steps? Manual keeeps pointing to scan tool that I don't have.
If you need to use a scan tool, Auto Zone or Parts Zone will lend you a scanner to pull the codes in the store's parking lot. No charge. I use the Parts Zone near me, and I only give them my driver's license. When through, they do a download and print out in the store for you.
Short of that, and with out checking the codes, which I'd bet are all BSM comm errors, I'd try to retain the FOBS.
Good luck. Let me know how it turns out. I have a 98, and we got to stick together. Unique things happen to the different years of the C5, and I threw a bunch of comm errors shortly after getting my 98.
Are your fobs not working or the whole security system? If you had a dead battery in the fobs you will need to re-sync them to your alarm system. To do this you need to turn the key to on but don't start the car, next take your fob and hold the lock and unlock buttons at the same time until you hear the horn beep once. If this doesn't work then you will have to teach the fobs your cars codes again9 in the book this is the learning process and I will have to look this up for you. Let me know how you do.

Actually the fob will relearn from outside the car with no key if the doors are locked. Ive lost sync several times while I was shopping at Walmart. Call me lazy but rather than use the key to unlock the car, I just pressed both buttons and voila! Fob resynced...
