So I had the problem where the wipers would go on and off with a mind of their own. I did a search on this forum and it turns out its the control module attached to the motor. I opened everything up and cleaned out the utters and took a look at the circuit board. It wasn't corroded like I had hoped, but I got a reman from Murry's Auto parts for 60 bucks with a lifetime warranty.
I put the new one in and it worked great for a while, only did one random pass at the windshield and that was it. The next morning when I started the car up the wipers would not stop until I pulled the fuse. I am now waiting for them to get me another motor. Should I have gone to Autozone instead
My GM parts counter wanted 200 bucks, probably should have done that.
The funny part is the box the reman motor came is said "Tested with an Oscilloscope" That's good stuff
went thru same thing put in three cheap $60.00 motor every one had adifferent malfunction..ended up putting in first replacement motor that workrd in almost all modes except in delay mode it wold stop on the up swing got use to it now the other two motors did exactlly what yours is doing maybe you got my defected one good luck oyeah didnt want tp pay $200.00 for o.e.m...
1. Pull the fuse for the wiper system from under the passenger foot panel. So you don't get your fingers crushed when the motor gets a mind of its own.
2. You're going to need to take the wipers off with a 1/2 socket.
3. To take off the wipers you might need a gear puller because they're on there with some loctite.
4. Take all these out and remember where they went.
Now you should be able to get to here
5. Now to get the motor separated from the wiper arm assembly use a 10mm socket and a torx on the following.
6. To get the motor free of the wiper arm assembly you might have to whack an awl in the center of the wiper motor shaft.
7. Now you should be able to wiggle the wiper arm assembly out and take out the motor.
The motor I installed today was another bad one. CarDone is who re-manufactured it. Autozone and Murray's are using the same people so I am stuck. I did get Murray's to price match Autozone. Lets hope the third time is a charm!
I just got my hands on the GM Service Manuals and it looks like I have quite a bit of troubleshooting to do before the motor is replaced. Probably will end up being the switch in the column and we can chalk this up to experience. I will post back when I get to the bottom of this.
dave,
I tried pulling off the wipers but they are really stuck on there! I feel like if i pull any harder, im going to break it. I duno wat a gear puller is. Any other way to remove them?
thanks
You're just in Wilmette, if you want, you can swing by my place sometime and I'll show you how to remove them with my gear puller. I have the GM Service Manual and they show the use of a gear puller, it is the only way. The problem is that they use some serious blue locktite from the factory.

Thread the nut on to the shaft so that it is flush with the top of the stud. Soak the assembly with PB Blaster or WD-40. Then geta punch and hammer.
I had my son lift up on the arm and I whacked the nut/shaft with a punch driven by a small ball peen hammer. It came right off. Make sure that you coat it with anti seize prior to disassembly!
Everything comes apart easy and you will see the nuts and screws pretty easily. I was surprised at how much you must take apart to do this job, don't try to cut any corners, feel free to ask questions. I was surprised by how many switches just pop out.
You will have to get upside down for these
The last picture is actually a reverse torx? on the bottom of the column cover. Wasn't much detail in the GM service manual
I got the wiper switch for $27 shipped and Autozone would want $90, I didn't even call my GM parts counter!
Any idea what a service department would have charged me labor to do all that?
Good write up. You confirmed for me that my eyes were not deceiving me, and that really was a reverse torx head screw. (Standing on my head, looking up, my old eyes could barely focus on it.) Fortunately I had a long screw with the right head (T25 - I think) to use as a driver. I did not understand why you removed the center console --- the knee bolster can be pulled without removing the console. Then, after I finished, I understood why you removed the center console --- you can bend the center trim panel, near the ignition switch, enough to get the knee bolster out, but its a lot harder to get it back in.
