Just wondering how everyone who has put a C6 shifter into your C5 like it now that it has been a while? I know there is a number of people here that have done it. Is it a worthwhile mod if you don't want to go the way of the Hurst etc.? I know the Hurst supporters will say its the same old crap, and maybe it is, but I really haven't minded the stock shifter all that much. I would just like a little shorter shifter with looks that are better than the C5. Looking for opinions before I jump.
I just drove a C6 the other day for the first time. I realized that the shifter took pretty much the same amount of work so move around as my stock C5 shifter did, but the difference is that you really can tell what gear you're going into. Definately not as slushy as the stock C5'er.
I just added it this weekend. I like it. Very easy to engage all gears, shorter throw and love the new ****. I changed from a Hurst to the C6 shifter and like it very much. I was very impressed at how all gears engage so much easier and the throw is somewhat longer than the Hurst, but much better than the C5. The shift effort is much easier and the sound deadening is much superior to the Hurst.
For my uses, I am going to stay with the C6 shifter.
Never driven the Hurst, but the C6 is so much better than the stock shifter. The feel, the look, the throw... all big improvement over stock. Personally, I wish it were just a liiiiiitle bit shorter, but who's complaining? Oh wait, I am. Oh well, I'm still glad I did it, especially now that I'm totally used to it.
Is there any way to use a different stick with the C6 shifter? F-bodys can do this, you can pretty much use whatever shifter and stick you want, just mix and match.
I tried the Hurst and removed it after a week and sold it. Too noisy and unrefined in my opinion. The C6 shifter is a direct and easy swap, smooth as butter and as quiet as stock. I drive a lot in 5th gear and the C6 shifter leaves more room between the shift **** and the console, a big plus. In my opinion, it is the way the C5 should have been and GM listened and got it right. Hopefull we will see some of the different leather colors, etc. that have been promised.
I installed one for a friend and after driving the car around I liked it so much that I got one for myself.
The install is simple. Take off the center console and then a few bolts and pull out the old and drop in the new (just make sure your notch on the shaft and the holding screw line up otherwise you will not be able to get into gear). I can do it now in under 1/2 hour.

I did mine about 2 weeks ago and am happy with the decision.
I used the Hurst for 1 day and was disappointed with the amount
of effort to engage the gears. Unless you're going to be banging
gears all day long, the C6 is the way to go.
It's more refined but has a positive feel with none of the noise
characteristics of the aftermarket shifters.
A little pricey but worth ithe extra cost IMHO.
I had shortened my stock shifter and it was somewhat better but
I felt it exagerated the notchiness of the shifts.
As Weasel said, it is about an hour's job at the most.
Does the C6 shifter have a threaded shaft? If so, anyone know what thread it is? I'm almost talked out of a Hurst etc.
Nope it's not threaded. The C6 **** actually kind of snaps on and there
is an extension piece at the bottom of the **** (which is covered by your boot) that has flange that uses a screw to attach to the shaft to lock it in place.

Oh no! This means my C5 shift **** collection is rendered useless if I go with the C6 shifter? That will be hard to live with.
Noticed you are in Mass. Why are you bothering to make any mods this year haven't you heard we are only 10 days into our 40 days and 40 nights?
BTW did mine about a month ago and love it. Might see you at some local show over the summer if the rain stops
This weather is unbelieveable. I left my home in Naples Fl to come back to this?
Let me know what shows are up. I'm 40 minutes north of Boston and I try to do as many shows as I can, both with my Coupe or my 33 Plymouth Coupe. Anyway, I got my shifter from Fitchner Chevrolet. About 222. complete with **** I think. I didn't know about the Fred Beans special, but what the heck, it's not that much of a difference and they had it in stock
