The Baja filter it comes with. This whole rush on K&N filters for the Vararam is the result of alarmism.
The K&N is not widely reagarded for it's filtering capabilities either. And now people are rushing out to put it in place of the foam filter.
Lets see, a foam filter which fits well, and with no Vararam owning members reporting problems with them vs a cotton guaze filter which does not fit well........
The foam filter seals into the box better and with diligent maintenance has worked well for a number of folks here.
No forum member I know of has come here and described a personal experience involving engine damage using the Vararam and it's foam filter.
This k&N business over the last few days is the result of alarmism.

I agree EB I thought I would buy one and just see what I could do with it Im a Mc Giver guy. My foam filter seems to be working fine I added some dense foam weather stripping to the edge for a better seal to the upper half. I check and clean periodically TB looks good

I used the original flimsy foam filter and had no problems. I cleaned it often though.
The K&N does require some fitment, it will not fit in from the box. A good sharp razor blade and some adjustments to the radii in the corners and about 1/8" in length and it fits right in. I glued mine with silicone because I don't trust the foam to hold it in place and provide a proper seal.
The Vararam b2 filter is a good filter, better than the original vararam filter included in the first vararams. The KnN filter flows less air (read: restriction) and sometimes causes problems from it's oil getting on the maf wires. Sticking with the Vararam here.
I just slid a K&N in there on saturday. Didn't have much of a fitment problem, but hell my vararam doesn't really line up well in the first place. I have a duct tape seal.
Ill take that 2hp loss to know i wont have to change that filter anytime soon and make sure i keep the sand out.
I was taking the vararam filter out today to oil it. Well, I had the K&N sitting there, so I used it. It took me about 10 minutes to get it to fit correctly. I used a piece of the vararam filter to get a perfect fit. If I ever decide to go back I will re attached the piece back to the vararam filter.
My TB was OK, I would not say perfect. There was a little debris. It could have been from the PVC system. I will put some miles on it with the K & N and see if it is the same.
Blackwing is yesterday's news. An idea whose time has come and gone, a compromise in the search for performance, a second best in the quest for excellence. A poor substitute for those searching for the holy grail of drag strip dominance, a...........well, you get the picture.
Or do you????? Nope I guess not. You still run the Blackwing
The Vararam is not for everybody. Only for those who want the most that there is to be gotten, performance wise, from their cars. Not everyone does.

Hello EB. A huge filter is never old news. In my last 4 races I have finished in the money 3 times. Not bad for old technology. You know what they say, money talks and BS walks.
I believe in your post you said "the holy grail of drag strip dominance". I am extremely happy with my Blackwing. And it protects my engine.

Were you "bracket racing" or racing head up?
I play in a foursome with Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, and Ernie Els next week. Stroke play. They are going to give me 20 a side. If I finish "in the money", I'll be sure to let you know.
I usually shoot in the mid 80s from the tips. They don't know that....... but so what.
...... You know what they say, money talks and BS walks.
Yeah, I've have heard "them" say that before. Say......BTW, what did you actually run, ET and trap speeds, when you finished in the money? Did any of your opponents red light?

Glad you are happy. So am I. The Vararam Baja filter protects my engine as well. NO ONE HAS PROVEN OTHERWISE
And the Vararam gives me better performance than the Blackwing.

I live on a golf course and play a little myself. If you beat Tiger, Phil and Ernie let me know what clubs you use. I'll switch. Get my drift?
I'm outta this one. I gave him good advice. That's it folks.

Top of the morning to you Korreck. But leaving so soon ???
You never answered: "...what did you actually run, ET and trap speeds, when you finished in the money? Did any of your opponents red light?"
You've been racing all weekend they tell me. What did you actually run??
Oh, BTW there was another Cold Air Thread started by Dave68 which scientifically PROVES that cold air works. He took measurements and provided documentation of repeatable results. http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show...169&forum_id=1

Whats wrong with bracket racing? The only cars that race heads up around here run in the 9's. I don't think my twelve second car would do to good against them.
