I agree with everything you said here except the part about paying a GM dealer for the Dex-Cool. Get it from Pep Boys, Auto Zone, NAPA, Wal-Mart, etc and save quite a bit on the price.

I disagree. I went all over the place. Pep Boys, Auto Zone and Kragen only had Prestone Dex-Cool approved. The guys thier were telling me it's the same thing. I knew it wasn't and moved on. I won't set foot in a Wal-Mart. So I went to the dealership and got the right stuff. So what if it's a little more. My car is worth it.

Hmm, kinda surprised you didn't find the Texaco Havoline brand of Dex-Cool. I think it's in the black jug. Your thorough flushing with distilled water is exactly the same thing I do plus I forgot that I too add a bottle of Royal Purple Purple Ice. Happy Vetting!

That was what I was looking for...and I checked thoroughly and the salesman were trying to sell me prestone (LOL). Spent way more time than I should have just trying to get real Dex-Cool. I could have tried another town? The dealership was right down the street and they had the real thing. I used Redlines Watter Wetter but I've been hearing great things about Royal Purple. I will use that next time. Thanks LoneStar for the tip.

Do you know how much the dealer charges for the flush and fill service?
hmmm Dex cool has been good to me. Use it in a few of my cars. Jsut changed on after 95,000 miles and all was good and that was after driving in the AZ heat

AZ is a great testing ground for any coolant! If it lasts there it will last anywhere.

2 Questions - First, whats the difference in Dealer sold Dex-Cool, and the Prestone made Dex-Cool ? From what I remember, Prestone has made great cooling products over the years that I've used with no problems. I've had good results with Prestone products in the past, and was considering the Dex-Cool by Prestone (GM approved). And major difference in the Prestone/GM made Dex-Cool? Kragen has it for $10.99, GM has it for $18.99.
Second question, what's up with the Redline vs Royal Purple stuff now? Redline is well known brand among racers. I've heard the name Royal purple a few times too, lately. So, anyone got suggestions on adding the Royal purple's - Purple Ice... VS.... Redline's - Water Wetter .
From what I've read about Corvettes, they suggest not to use any additives in these cars.... So, now that brings up a 3rd issues... Should we use any of these additives at all....
I changed heads last month so it was easy to look into the old heads' water passages for any buildups as described. At 60,000 miles of Dex-Cool use the old heads were clean.
