My 40,000 mile, 2001 MN6 Coupe has the original battery. I drive the car year round (no storage). How soon should I consider replacing the battery? We take long trips and I don't want to get stranded in the boonies.

My 01 has the original battery in it also. Since 01 was the first year in which this AGM battery was used, no one knows what its potential is. In Miatas, AGM batteries have been known to last 7 years or more under the right conditions. I'd say that if you drive your C5 regularly and for long enough distances, you may be able to get another 2 years or more out of it. My AGM is still very strong at 4 years old.

My 2000 still has the original battery and it is going strong. Most batteries do not fail over night so if it still turns over when cranking
as it does when it was new and the battery voltage is Ok when the
engine is off keep it. I have had great luck with the OEM AC-DELCO batteries and when mine gets weak I plan on replacing it with an AC.
What's AGM? My 2001 Coupe seems to be running ok with the same battery too...
The AC Delco AGM battery is a glass mat battery that is leak and vibration-proof. A few manufacturers make batteries of a similar construction, including Optima. Batteries that were OEM in 2000 and earlier C5s are lead-acid.
