I had my alternator and bracket polished last year. They looked great for a while but required a lot of elbow grease and skinned knuckles to keep it looking that way.
I just recently had another alternator & bracket assembly chromed and will keep the polished ones for spares.

They'll look great but a dull black surface is the best for disapating heat.
If you compare temps with a remote infrared sensor remember that you will need to compensate for the different color of the item of which you are measuring the temperature. The sensor is most accurate measuring the temperature of a non-reflective black surface. Measuring the temp of a polished shiny silver surface is entirely different. Your product manual should discuss this.
thanks, i was joking about the temp deal, even if i raced the car i don't think the temp would be drastically affected, anyone have metal polishing skills?
