I need to change out the oil pump. It looks like I'm not alone in this. Seems like pumps may be junk So I was looking for one that would be much better than stock. Anyone have any ideas where to, or what kind to buy?
The only aftermarket high performance oil pump I know of is one made my QTP. It looks like a nice pump but it will NOT work with a double roller timing chain. The other alternative is buying a ported pump. A ported pump is just a factory that has been worked to give a better flow. It would be nice if someone would make a really good pump with the high performance people in mind that would work with a double roller chain.

MTI-Houston---They sell ported and polished Oil Pumps.
Many ppl use accu-sumps either wet or dry. This helps keep the oil flowing and is used to pre-lube the engine before starting.
I use a wet 3 quart accu-sump hooked up to an oil cooler. This keeps the oil pressure and engine oil level in proper perportion, even on high speed sweeping corners that would normally cause oil to be moved to the out side of the engine and cause oil starvation which leads to the big bang.

Our pump is the only high performance pump made. Stockers that are ported help a little bit. But not much. Ours its a larger and new cast piece. 2mm thicker gear rotor. Only down size is due to its size it will not clear the factory timing cover so that is why we made our two piece cover.
Flows 15% more and 10 psi more.
It will not fit a double roller. But there are many single rollers out that there that work just fine with out the weight of the double roller.
I have a ported pump thtat MTI installed when they buit my 427. It makes about 60 PSI when it's cold and never falls below about 50 even in the TX heat. DO you really think we need more than that?

Probably not but what is appealing is the 2-piece cover that makes cam changes a whole lot easier since you won't have to remove the pulley

where can I by one? Why is it that the 3 or 4 people that have this oil pump problem all hit the red line just before the problem? It's not the oil pump but it is the check valve inside the oil pump any ideas? I think the check valves are weak?
Wow, other than the letters on the pump that looks like it came out of the same mold as the QTP pump! I think what QTP is saying they are the only ones who has made a true high volume pump with thicker rotors. Everyone elses pumps are just ported factory pumps, but that SLP don't look like my factory casting. My factory LS6 pump is a smooth casting. The QTP pump is rough like a sand casting which looks to be the way the SLP pump is made. If you look real close at that photo of the SLP pump you will see a shiny arc on the back of the inlet, that is exactly what my QTP pump looks like after I tried it with a double roller chain. QTP said it wouldn't work, they were right, but I spent $200 on a double roller chain so I was going to make sure! Looks like that SLP pump has a chain mark on it too.

Exactly what is your pump doing now? Low pressure? Happened all at once?
0 psi at start up ( 30 seconds or so) no noise, then 18-20 psi at idle. Normal psi when driving. Idle psi was 40-42. I checked the psi at idle with a manual gauge for the reading.
Many Yrs ago, I rebuilt a Mustang (my car at that time). I used to read HOT ROD magazine regularly, back then. While I was rebuilding the Mustang, I came across many High performance Oil pumps, two in particular. I had read they make High Presure & High Volume oil pumps for Ford. I assume there are some companies out there that would make similar oil pumps for Chevy LS1/LS6 also. Now that I'm not into HOT Rods, I don't know who makes them, or where we can get them. But I'm sure someone will chime in, or some info can be found through HOT Rod, or other sources...
Good luck. Someday, I'd like to change my car's oil pump to a High Perf oil pump too... (not that I need it)...
