Default Vararam Filter question

OK, the more research I do, the more confused I get. Being an old fart, that's pretty easy.

LAPD seems to have the best price. I hear they have great service. I know they use their own special filter in the VARARAM.

Is this truly a better filter than the stock one that comes with the Vararam?

Reason I ask is that another vendor will do price matching, but sells the stock filter.

MY opinion and experience only......Buy a new K&N-there is an internet vendor that sells for like $40. If you are concerned about fitment as I was, use clear silicone sealer and some c-clamps and mount it permanent (semi). No air leaks or dirts issues ever and you can clean the K&N easily by removing the V/R horn, rinsing and re-oiling.

Simply seal the fliter to the V/R-done. Move on

Cheap piece of foam that doesn't filter. I prefer a Blackwing with a window cut in the shroud and then add a Big Mouth. This allows good airflow with a great filter.

I purchased a Vararam and sold it without installing it. No way would I put that on my car. If you want photos of my install PM me because this thread is going to turn into a gigantic pizzing contest.

No one has proven that the Vararam Baja filter filters any worse than say, a K&N filter.

Good morning EB. Here we go again.

That may be a true statement but the documentation shows that the K&N doesn't filter well either. This is an ISO standard and not just someones opinion.

I am simply voicing my opinion and want to make sure he's well informed before install. The decision is his to make. He can go first class with my suggestions or install the Vararararm and all that bogus technology.

I know, had I left off that last sentance my life would have been easier.

I got my VARARAM from L.A.P.D. with there foam filter and it seems to work well no problems so far. From what I have read it is batter then the stock filter but having not seen the stock filter I can only go on hear-say. Foam filters have been around a long time and are used on dirt bikes so I have to believe they will work on the street . JMHO

Dude, everywhere I go I see you posting against Vararam. I understand folks voicing their opinion but geez, you make this a personal quest to turn everyone away from the dark side

I had an oil analysis done (Blackstone) on my VARARAM race filter. I have since switched to the BAJA filter. I'll post the comparision on my next oil change. I think Korreck is the one selling Blackwings. Sales must be down and the need has risen to pump them back up again.

I have 3 reasons for being on this forum and I'll list in order of importance.

1. Meet new people and make a few friends.

2.,3. To learn from others and to help when I can. I think he's making a bad decision.

Hmmmm, cut the shroud and injest colder air than what's underhood..... hey, that sounds like cold air induction.

I also have a set of rules I'll list in order.

1. Never try to have a discussion with an idiot.

Bob, you have yet to prove anything on this forum and you usually result in throwing the first derogatory stone. (see above) Once again, Bob, it's funny that when you are pressed to put some proof behind your posts, you call people idiots and never respond. Or when you're called out on your hypocrisy, (cut shroud, cold air??)you refuse to respond. That's called getting busted where I come from. You have been busted enough times on this forum, that you're just tolerated for your comical input. BTW, all your so called "CF friends"....... that's funny.

I have the results, I need to compare to the new filter. The race filter is not the filter I will run any longer on my daily driver. I will put it in when I know I'm going to the strip. With that being said, I just had the heads off this engine last week and the cylinders looked great after 40k miles. BTW, it's the 346 in the vert. Good power numbers, 443rwhp with a small cam, the rings must be working.

Before Korreck steps in, yes, the race filter is crappy for everyday use. For the strip, it can't be beat. Enough tests have been done to prove VARARAM is superior to your homemade copycat system Bob. I look forward to you and E.B. racing, equal mods...... he will out MPH you all day long. Maybe you should seal up the cut shroud, since "there is no such thing as cold air" your car should run the same with or without the cut shroud...... right Bob?
