Default Help installing cold air induction grills?

Recently purchased both the Blackwing intack and the cold air induction grills to replace the stock grills from a parts dealer/shop. The instructions for the grills say to open the headlamps, remove the side/rear shield and reach down to the stock grills and remove

The shop wants $300 for the install so I figure that they don't use the instructions that they gave me. Has anyone installed these and if so what procedures did you follow.

Thanks,

P.S. this is my first post, I have really enjoyed and learned a lot about the car from a bunch of you.

George,
I've had a Blackwing for 2 yrs without that induction system and NO problems. Many here will say the same. Engine bay stays cleaner without it too.

And welcome to the Forum

So you are replacing the foglight shroud with the Z06-like screens? Just want to clarify. Do you have the foglights?

If you have a way to lift the front and crawl under the nose (SAFELY, not on jacks) there's a keepout panel on the outside of the front fascia on each side that allows very easy access to the inside of this area on the fascia...I've been in there a few times. But you do have to undo 5 or 6 small bolts per side.

No way would I pay $300 for this...that's a major ripoff if I'm understanding what you are asking/doing. It may take an afternoon if you're not familiar with the area.

and welcome!

I've seen that in the shop manual, looks like the only way in, just needed conformation.

Thanks

I did mine by going through the headlight area by taking the sheilds off. I removed and reinstalled the bolts by feel with a nut driver because they are not cranked down all that tight and it wasn't too bad. You need to have small hands and some patience. Took about 2 hours to complete. Have to make sure you get that wiring harness off the clips for the one on the passenger side. I did mine a while back and I couldn't find any info to tell me to do it differently, but it worked out fine for me.

don't waste $300.00 on getting them installed!

it's a very easy job.
I removed the radiator shroud and drove the car up on ramps, it took about 2Hrs from start to finish but with the shroud removed the clearance was not that bad.

with the cold air screens installed my intake air temps are at ambient temp.

note: these are NOT Z06 screens, they replace the factory fog light shrouds.

Here's what you do about the fog light shrouds. Take the ones you bought and return them for a refund. Then, get out your power drill with a 1/2-inch bit and carefully drill three offset rows. After the ten mins it takes to perform that procedure go get a beer and be glad you didn't try to change out the shrouds, and that you saved about $60.

Thanks everybody, I now have two alterernatives, from the instruction that sound reasonable (no I don't have small hands). If you see cold air induction screens for a C-5 on e-bay you will know I used the drill.

Anyway I'm back to work on Monday and won't be back home for a month but will have some time to think about which approach I will take. If I decide to remove the radiator shroud I may even go to staples and get the C-5 cold air scoop aka file holder.

Thanks all.

George

Ditto - did the same thing this weekend and i didn't even jack it up. I removed the shroud and it was butter after that. The only hard part was the screws closest to the fenders - just have to do those by feel, and if you've got big hands your SOL best i can tell (maybe i did it the hard way?). Once you've got the 3 bolts out, grab the top (from the back) and rotate toward the ground and they will pop out past the fog lights. Also note there is a wire bunch that is clipped to them.
