Ok, heres the deal. The car seems to get rather hot (220-240) when parked and idling with the A/C running or if I am sitting in traffic at a light for any length of time. I have noticed that if when the car gets up there in temp if I kill the A/C it will begin to cool down on its own if I am parked. Also no issues when I am moving due to increased air flow.
I have done all the obvious stuff ...coolant level, debris etc.
I have a 172 stat in there and when my car was tuned we made the necessary adjustments for the fans. So my question is this, do I need to possibly change the fan times to allow them to come on sooner and run longer or do you think maybe my T-stat is just F'd up and I need a new one.
Or is it just because its so frickin hot out it doesn't matter

I think she is pissed at you after finding out about you new love that 505 HP ****
What about a 160 stat??
May be worth trying
good luck....
Assuming he has a properly operating thermostat what good would it be to change to a lower temp thermostat? The one he has is already wide open. He could have a 195 in there and it would be the same.
Although the temps sound about right for a stock car if your fan was programmed to come on earlier it seems the temps would be lower. You should probably see what temp the fans kick on and off. You may have lost your fan programming.

Actually for a stock set up that sounds pretty normal - GM keeps temps up for cleaner emmisions. Reprograming fans - turn on temp - will remedy that. Yes, you need an external 'box' to program fan temps. My tuner did mine. I'm sure others can chime in to help you out.

well like I said it is NOT stock....I have a 172 stat in there...car never saw those temps before so I may tweak the fans some
Check under the car to see if you sucked up some junk that is blocking the AC Evaporator/ Radiator.
If temps are suddenly running higher then this may very well be your prob, if everything (fluid levels, t-stat, no crack in the block) else has checked ok.
search for my posts in other overheating threads for pics of what my radiator looked like after I got it out..my temps were exactly the same as yours with a 170* stat, they're now down to 190ish sitting in traffic with 104+ reading on the climate control and AC on high all day long...
well I got in there and seperated the 2 pieces and really cleaned it out....still flushed out a buncha crap....its a PITA for sure...I need to find a different type of nozzle to really get down in there but it seemed to do pretty good....anyhow we will see how it goes
yeah I was going to pull them all the way out but when I saw I could seperate them a bit without alot of effort I figured I would try the easy way first....
