Default LS1 Heads Vs LS6 heads??

So im in the process of doing a cam on my 2000M6, well here is my question and a lil background: This guy is selling me a set of LS6 heads for $500 should i buy the heads and exchange them for my LS1 ones while im doing the cam.pushrods, retainers etc...??? Will they really make that much of a difference or am i better off just keeping the LS1 heads? What gains am i looking at? Please any help would he appreciated.

See my setup, I have stock LS6 heads. They were put on actually before I did the cam install, along with headers and rockers at the same time, for a pickup of about 40hp/tq total (320ish to 363).

With just a small cam and stock LS6 heads, I make just about or very close to an average or above average H/C car with same mods.

For $500 and incidentals, hell yeah, do it. Good Luck!

Hopefully soon I will be doing a set of AFR 205s after all is set so I can get a real dyno comparison between them.

Go with the LS6's... get them ported and polished. I wish I would have done heads at the same time I did my cam. I would recommend getting head studs too instead of purchasing another set of throw away bolts.

Can you clarify. With just the head swap to LS6 heads, you went from 320 to 363. Then the cam, headers, and rockers got you to 400?

LS6 heads out of the box are only worth about 10 RWHP.
If you can get a set of LS1 or LS6 heads cheap, you can then get them ported or cleaned up for much less than aftermarket heads, and even get them ported to match your specific cam specs for a brilliant match..

Thats what I did with a set of stock heads,
and got 30 RWHP & 35 RWTQ

I have my stock heads available as well..
I'll make you a hell of a deal if you like..

nonono, the heads, headers are rockers got me 40+, from 320 to 363.
The cam and underdrive pulley got me to 400 from there

Orignally went from 298 to 320 with airbox, ls6 intake manifold and corsa.

I was selling mine (18k miles for $450), but will now sell for $250.

You can get them ported for about $400.
Thats a BIG savings over aftermarket heads, with comparable gains!

I got 30 RWHP & 35 TQ just from a "mild" clean up over my stock heads..

If im not mistaken, good streetable H/C cam should be in the 450-470 hp range. For the money if you were buying ported and polished heads i stay with the ls1 heads and save your self 500 to 600 in a core charge. Use the money else where. Get the ls1's milled a little and you will love them.... MY setup now is maken 400 rwhp with just cam and headers. Stage 3 ls1 heads on the way. New compression 11:6:1 This should be good for 450 at the wheels easy.

The difference in the 2 heads is ls6 flow a little bit better. Say like 20 cfm's more after port and polish and the compression is a tad higher. If you do go with the ls6 heads i think most tuners will say they are good for 25 hp over ls1 heads after they both have had work.

Originally there was a problem with the ls1 head some kind of disturbance in the flow well when they started maken the ls6 heads they solved this problem.
