Default Porting stock heads worth it?

I'm pretty much stock except for intake and exhaust. For about 500 bucks I can have my heads ported. Without a cam or headers would I see much of a gain? For me cost is a factor and 1500 bucks for headers seems a bit steep. Any help would be appreciated.

You might be better off going the cam route for the funds you have. Check out the new Thunder Racing CheaTR cam, it was designed for stock exhaust manifolds and it seems to be good for 30 HP from what I have seen to date. As for the heads, I don't you will get as much but if you go the head route you might want to look at the Crane accelerated lift rockers to get a bit more duration on your valves.

IMO, Porting heads alone will give more HP,not a big amount. Why not go with a cam while the heads are off. The 2 together will give a fairly big HP gain. This is what I did.

It is all about engine breathing. The LSx heads flow fairly well in stock form. The first blockage is the exhaust manifold. A cam will help only to the extent that the heads will flow what your new cam will deliver.

then the heads would be the next restriction.

Your first mod and the mod most do first is Air filter/intake then Headers then Cam then Heads.

If you are going to modify your car after headers then your choice there will affect every future mod.

A typical 03 LS1 coupe with one of our Cam only packages will make above 415 rwhp while a Z06 will see about 430 for a cam only and header package.

We have our G5X-series of cam shafts. they produce proven horsepower all over the country in every shop that has installed one.
A typical Z06 with our G5X-3 cam and LG Pro Long tube headers will put about 430rwhp to the wheels.

Give us a call .

We have a Cam only sale going on right now.
