no need to pull the motor..

drop the rear cradle and unbolt the torque tube from the bellhousing basically, can be done in a few hours with the right tools....lemme know if you want more specific details.

I haven't seen a write up on pulling the engine, although I am looking for one too. Most places with a lift take it out the bottom pretty easily...but I'm guessing you don't have one of those

The engine bay seems to have plenty of room after you get the AC condensor and radiator out of the way (and hood)...Should be pretty self explanatory from there...unhook anything that's in the way!

yea that shouldn't be a problem with the engine out, read up on the threads about having all the clutch/flywheel stuff balanced. i actually didn't and just bolted it on and all is fine, but not the case for some others. REPLACE THE SLAVE CYLINDER WHILE YOU HAVE IT OUT!!! Everybody else will tell you to get a remote bleeder line also, but I didn't and haven't seen much reason to spend $100 on it.

You don't need to pull the engine to flycut pistons, just take the heads off. Not that I've ever done it, just seen posts from people who have, over on http://www.ls1tech.com

I *do* need to pull the engine in my C5 though, I'm going to try to finish getting it out on Sunday. I've got it stripped down pretty far. I've got the heads off (which some say isn't necessary, but one was off already anyway), and the alternator, PS pump, water pump, ac compressor. Also got the fans, radiator, and AC condensor out, although some say that's not needed either. Looks really empty in there, I'll snap a pic and post it.

Here's the best thread I found so far. Scroll down and read blackbelt's comments:

If anyone has a detailed description of what to do, or more pictures, that'd be really cool.

Usually the first time I pull a motor in whatever car I realize after the fact that I removed way more than I needed to in order to get it out. Second time I can usually pull them with almost everything attached, some pics of a removal would be nice!

Yeah, pics would be nice. I get kinda nervous about actually taking the engine out, so I just find more stuff that's sort of in the way, and I remove that instead. I think I'm gonna take out the steering rack, too, even though it's supposedly not needed. It's right in front of the crank pulley, and besides the power steering lines I already disconnected, it's just two bolts and then the tie-rod ends.

Never touched the radiator or fans
AC Lines CONNECTED Compressor removed (hold the Stud ) set it on the side
