I see on here that many of you are up around 500 hp or better. After watching the video at Andy's and seeing some with 700 or 800 hp I have a question. What kind of tires do most of you run to take advantage of so much power and get that neck snapping accel. without spinning your tires too much? Do you still pretty much have to feather the throttle? Also, is anybody still running stock wheels or is going to a bigger wheel a must. Right now I'm pretty much stock but getting 4:10's next month and then probably headers after that. H/C will be down the road a little bit, but just wondering if and how it's possible to use all that power. Or is loss of traction always a problem no matter what tire's you're using? My car is not a DD and won't be going to the track, can you get good enough street tires on stock wheels to take advantage of 500 ponies. All opinions appreciated.
If you are talking 500+ at the wheels--no there is no street tire made that will hold it--700 to 800rwhp is nuts and the guys with that will tell you so they are breaking loose the biggest street tire you can mount in 5th gear at over 100 mph--I can pretty much do this with about 550rwhp--you can mini tubb and mount 12" or a little bigger wheel and put 345s on the back and still no traction---about a 450rwhp heads cam and header package with the typical bolt on's is about the best balance you can have for the street in these cars, there are some of the guys running drag radials and that helps but they don't last long, and some of the guys run their et streets and skinnies on the street but in the wet or for handling they are not good and the et streets can tear up a drive train quickly--problem is if the tires stick something breaks and any street tire made will put you all over the road--if you just want a very good performing street car stay about 450 at the wheels--the new 427 zo6s that are coming out are rated at 505 at the flywheel which would put them in the 430+rwhp and probably similar torque range--they come with a 12" (wide of course) rear wheel which will probably make them about as streetable as it can get--
