O2 Simulators. What are they for?
I'm getting ready to put a set of Long tube headers and high flow cats on my car. Do I need O2 sims or can I use the O2 sensors that come from the factory? What is the difference?
When you speak of O2 sims you are referring to replacing the rear set of O2 sensors. The sims are in place to send a set voltage to the computer to simulate the presence of catalytic converters (actually to simulate an appropriate fuel/O2 mixture based on what the effectiveness of the cat is supposed to be).
If you were going no cats I'd say YES, you need sims unless you edit them out of the program, otherwise you'll get codes because the computer must recieve a voltage from the rear O2s.
With high flows, I honestly don't know...would depend on the effectiveness of the high flows...someone else will likely chime in, or ask your local tuner.
I have hi flow cats and use the stock 02 sensors and occassionally get the P420 and P430 codes along with the check engine light. Its gotten pretty annoying now but I still need to pass inspection every year so I'm not sure if I'll get sims or just have the codes edited out. I'll have to talk with my tuner to make sure which one will allow me to pass inspection. Anyone know which one would be better?
