After having my upper intake cleaned and my injectors my car is a beast. How can I prevent carbon from building back up? What causes it?
How did you do the upper intake....the dealer?
I just recently did H/C so I actually saw the buildup on valves and pistion heads. My car also pinged...probably due to this. I have no pinging now with my new H/C.
I'm no expert so I will probably be corrected but it is my understanding that carbon build up is from oil in the fuel mixture which is not fully burned and sticks to combustion surfaces. It is prevented by not allowing oil into the system (catch cans), burning hotter, and additives such as Techroline(sp) and Torco.
I remember when little old granny's Lincoln wouldn't run so good after a year of puttin' around town. The fix was to run it WOT several time and "blow the carb's out", today known as carbon deposits.
Isn't most carbon build up a result of incomplet combusiton? Sounds like the RX is more time at WOT
Common when too high an octane is run (vs. what is needed)
Assuming you're only burning a bit of oil (i.e. through PCV or something) some time at WOT could be just what the doctor ordered.
BUT, I spent my life at WOT in my 2k1 before I grew up (mentally) and it pinged like mad; however, it had the ring issue and burned a BUNCH of oil, so different story.
If the buildup isn't too bad, a bottle of techron and some WOT will probably do wonders.
