I have a front engine squeal / squeek that I can't figure out what it is. I bought the car a few months ago off another forum member and was told it was the belts. He was spraying it with belt dressing. I can't get rid of the noise.
It's a 98 Convertible with 64K miles on it. In the past few days, I have replaced both belts, tensioner, idler pulley, water pump, and put new bearings in the alternator - but the noise is still there. Everything that has been replaced appears to have actually needed replaced (I am not just replacing things). Does anyone have any ideas?
The only thing that I have not replaced is the power steering pump but I guess that's next.
Thanks in advance for any recommendations!
Mitch

Everytime that a part is replaced, the noise gets a little better. The noise actually went away for the better part of two days then came back. The noise seems to change where it is coming from (moves around) and the sound changes (from squeal to chirp, etc.). Currently it is a chirping noise. I keep looking around for the cameras and someone to scream "You're on Candid Camera!"
Did you check your crankshaft pulley to make sure it's not loose or wobbling? Have you tried to run the engine with the belts off, one at a time? You didn't mention anything about the A/C compressor, did you do the belt and tensioner? Good Luck.

I replaced the A/C belt and tensioner. When the engine runs with belt off - there is no noise. I am going to meet the mechanic now so we will check the crankshaft pulley.
