Active handling gone CRAZY, randomly braking front wheel...
Well, I bought this car back in January and have always gotten an error code for the active handling, mainly because the original shocks were replaced with coilovers. I put 12ohm resistors in the connectors for the shocks so the computer would let me get over 80mph about 5 months ago and have had no real problems since. Yesterday I was pulling out of my place, turning right... and I hear the screaching of one of my tires as I'm trying to accelerate and feel myself thrown forward. I hit the active handling/traction control button and a few seconds later the front right brake releases and I'm on my way. Happens again several times, pretty much everytime I turn right with the active handling on. It happened one other time when I was turning left out of Hooters and I almost got side swiped since there's almost no way to accelerate with a front wheel locked like that, esp if you aren't expecting it. So, I'm wondering why its doing this, I don't really know what the computer uses to know when to slam on the brakes like that, but I can't imagine many situations where it'd be much help. Any suggestions besides turning the car back to the original suspension? Thanks.

Reason: spelling
Im having very similar problems with my 2001 Z06 , its getting tiresom and Im thinking of removing all that bull**** since I always turn it off anyways unless I forget !!
I get the "service active handling" and the pass side front wheel will lock up sometimes at random , or when I hammer on the brakes and ABS is enguaged the same front tire locks up and almost made me crash. ( when I clean that wheel it always has WAY more brake dust on it too )
Is there a way to disable the entire abs / TCS system without causing mad codes ?? Can the codes be deleted in HP tuners ?? I just want regular brakes , no need for all this BS

You have a problem with your AH, and you need to get it FIXED before your car destroys itself (with you in it). My friend's C5 was totalled when the AH locked a front wheel and sent her into a wall on a freeway onramp at about 50mph.
that's why I made this thread, i'm with 'I brake for nothing', i just want all this **** disabled, traction control maybe sometimes is ok to keep me under control in really deep rain, but the rest of it is nothing but a headache...I'm going to look at some wiring diagrams in a minute and see if I can unhook whatever motor actuates the brakes for the active handling. I'd rather get some [more] error codes for the AH than have my brakes locking up to try and 'help' me turn...
yeah its scary , I was kicking the **** out of a new M3 and I came up on traffic , applied the brakes ( not very hard ) the right front wheel locked and sent me half into his lane . It was HARRY , I thought I was going to bite it BAD
You guys may have a bad YAW sensor. My wifes 04 vert had some simular problems as you two discribe. We took it in and they said the YAW sensor located under the passanger seat next to the tunnel was bad.
The dealership replace the sensor and no problems.
The other thing with TC/AH problems is to check your conections at the wheels. Push the sensor in to make sure it is a tight fit. if it is off or out just slightly the connecitons are ok most of the time, but once in a while the connection stops causeing problems.
It's more than likely a bad steering wheel positioning sensor.
Carson, I put a brand new one in it almost 2 years ago as it was doing the same thing. Came on at 85 mph on me. That seemed to fix it until now. The computer is not getting the same speed readings from the wheels so it compensates for it by locking up the one wheel. Usually one of the fronts.
I have had VERY similar experiences with my 99. Lots of problems with the AH. I have not had a lock up, one of my front brakes will pulsate and cause the car to pull. I can still move though, but I punch the off button REAL fast. This sucks.
I recently took the car to the dealership to have the column lock recall done and while at it, I asked them to look at the AH. I drove the car with a tech in the car w/Tech2 in hand. The mechanic could not notice anything wrong while the AH was messing up. So, mechanic kept car, fixed column lock, and then could not get the AH to act up. I drove the car for him again to make it mess up, but nothing. I have had the car back for 1 month now and the AH will not pulse the front brake the way it used to. I am thinking that when the dealership reprogrammed the computer, they must of overwritten some corrupted data that was making the AH not work correctly.
BUT THERE ARE NEW PROBLEMS!!!!!
1. Sometimes I get "Active Handling Warming Up" which I never EVER got before.
2. I get a check engine light and the car begins to hesitate and stubles when in idle. Code says IAT sensor (internal air temp) is failing.
3. I get "Pull Key Wait 10 Sec," which I NEVER got before followed by "Service Column Lock" error, which I also NEVER got before.
So, I traded one bad behavior for several more. Oh, and the recall actually creates the problem it is supposed to fix and which I had never actually experienced before.
All this is just FYI to see if others have had similar experiences.
I also want to add some information about trying to fix the AH problem.
I have replaced both the Yaw rate sensor (under the AC/Radio controls and the steering column position sensor. Neither of these replacements have been able to fix the problem. Only part I have not replaced sensor wise is the lateral accelerometer which is under the passenger seat.
So, I think my problem is computer related, and maybe you guys have a similar problem. My only current issue is that the reprogram they did seems to have caused other issues.
Ok,...the YAW sensor may be it....forum member Snake Slayer had this problem....a screw came out and every time he took a corner damn car locked up.....something to look at
seems that the screw coming out allowed the sensor to move around and made for some exciting moments
