Default Question Regarding Dyno Tune...

I have a few mods done to my 97 A4- the list is: Shorty Headers from B&B (got them slightly used for $300 so I couldn't pass) Haltech Stinger and a Z06 catback exhaust. I am running the stock tune right now. Is there a benefit to having a dyno tune done to the car after improving its inhale and exhale abilities a little like I have done? The car runs very strong (as it did before the mods) but you can feel what I have done making it more powerful...

What if any can I expect to get out of her? Would a mail order tune also work? I see them listed for $99 and next day shipping...

Any advice please!

If I were you I would run my car at track to see where my car stacks up. Before spending alot of money on a dyno tune with the minor mods you have.

If your car is running good I would not bother with a mail order tune.

What gears do you have? If you have 3.15 gears you should be able to run very low 13s to high 12s with decent traction.

Get a tune from a reputable place. You have an A4 and a proper tune will help the A4's a bit more as they will alter shift speeds/firmness, as well as engine performance.

I was running 13.4XX stock on my 03 Vert, around 13.2XX after adding the Halltech and then down to 13.0XXX after the tune. Weather conditions were almost identical between the 13.2xx before tune to 13.0XX after tune. (Actually the weather on the 13.0xxx was actually worse!)

There are MANY things that a good tuner with a dyno can do for you. On your automatic there are little things that can be done to help shift firmness. You can get rid of the torque management. It could limit what HP and Tq improvements that you make. You will be able to lower your coolant fan turn on setting, get rid of CAGS and optimize your AF ratio and timing settings.

If you do decide to get it tuned, here are some things to do before you go: Install a lower temp thermostat.. I installed a 178 degree stat and with my fan reprograming the car runs much cooler!

Your not going to see gobs of HP/TQ improvements but you will get the best out of what you have and know what HP/TQ figures that you have.

Tell us where you live and ask the questoin on what is the best tuner in your area and someone will pipe in.

THe only reason I had my vette Dyno tuned is because

1. I was doing a dyno run anyway.. part of a big group thing

2. I have a freind how has HPtuner and it didn't cost me anything

I picked up a total of 6RWHP on my 01 MN6 and all I have is intake and exhaust..

But I did get rid of the CAGS and I had my rev limiter raised..

I am not sure about all the stuff you can do with a A4 but if it doesn't cost a lot then maybe do it for a good basline if you planning on doing more mods..

My 4 dyno pulls only cost me 40 bucks...
