Shifter spinning
I went to cut off a little off the top of the shifter on my 98 6spd and I finished up and tightened down the shifter ****, but I guess I tightened it too hard and now the shifter rod spins realtively easy. It shifts fine and engages all the gears just fine, but it is quite annoying. What happened? Is it hard to remove the console to get to it?

I'll bet you can get another one to replace it relatively inexpensively. Take a look at my instructions for replacing the shifter to see how much work is involved (not much, just take your time).
