How do you clean a MAF
Someone suggested in another thread that my MAF may need cleaning due to my RPMs dropping down real low when I let off the gas. How exactly do you clean a MAF? I don't want to screw this thing up.

I haven't cleaned mine and I am interested in the answer but remember your TPS may be going bad ............I have read it will drop rpms below normal until it sets itself. Just trying to help.

I used throttle body cleaner then blew it of with air. always read the can and make sure that it says that it won't leave any residue.

I have heard that you can use isopropyl But don't take that as a certainty. But I would think it could be used. It will be interesting to see what others think.

how about you try an electronics cleaner available at any parts store? No residue, dries instantly. Comes in a red aerosole can.

Anything else may be to harsh, and try to avoid touching the wires to clean it if you can.

The electronics cleaner sounds safe enough. I'll pick some up tomorrow and give it a try.
Thanks for the help.

Radio Shack electronics parts cleaner in the aerosol can did me right, back when I got too happy w/ the K&N air filter oil and got a P0101 error code.
Just position the MAF pointing up, spray the cleaner across the wire and thermistors until they're clean, then flip it and repeat.
No physical contact w/ the filament or thermistors! Don't touch 'em with anything. Just spray them and let the contaminants run off.
Rat Shack also sells long wooden Q-tips which are nice for cleaning the housing and screen, just don't touch the filament or thermistors.
