I am considering a cam swap, I'm thinking of a Comp XER 224/230 .581 .588 on a 114LSA, with 918's and Ti retainers. Is this too much cam for a 2800 stall, stock heads, cast iron manifods and 3.42 gears, if so your recommendations would be welcome.

The PT2800 would not be my choice with that cam. But you can get away with using it, 3.42 gears would be fine. IMO the Yank SS3600 would be a better choice. I would definately get LT headers and I would run PRC or Patroit Gold dual springs instead of 918s. For piece of mind I would spend the extra $40.00 to get the dual springs. Especially since that cam has aggressive XER lobes and a .580+ lift.

Thanx, I already have the PT, wanted the SS3600, but I couldn't pass on the 2800 for the deal I got on it. Headers are down the road, just a matter of cash for this year. I'm looking to go mid 12's with the stock heads and exhaust and I will seriuosly consider the duals. Jeff

With your combo you should be able to run mid 12s. When you get headers with a good tune you should run very lows 12 to high 11s. With good traction of course.
FWIW my buddy MCTorch ran 11.55 @ 117 MPH cam only (C2 cam 224/224 581/581) with LTs, ST3500 and 3.42 gears. His car was tuned by MTI.

wow! 11.5 is very impressive! im hoping i will be there after the tune!
i think you will be happy with that choice. ive heard the XER cams tune out and idle better. not sure if its true of not. i just installed the XER 224/228 581/588 on a 113 this past weekend. started right up, and runs pretty good for a stock tune. will be headed out to revxtremes in a few weeks for tuning!

It is true XER cams with their fast ramps idle better than many cams with slower ramp speeds.
"Revxtremes" never heard of that tuner, where are they located?
Thanx for all the replies. I'm just hoping for mid 12's in any weather on sticky street tires. I figure I'll have to let em spin a bit to prevent broken parts! Car is just barely in the 12's now in good air, so I figure TC and gears should be good for .3 in the 1/4 and the cam should buy me another .2 or slightly more. Jeff

they are located out in tampa. they are forum vendors, but i never paid much attention untill a few friends told me that their tuner "jeremy" is the guy to see when you need a tune. i did some research on him, and found he does some serious work! jeremys website is http://www.fasterproms.com and you can check out revxtremes site (not much to it) on the vendor list on the side

Whats up Kidd, yeah thats a good all around cam you chose. Im swapping to that cam late rthis year. (AFR's version) pair it up with a set of AFRs or a nice ported set of LS6 heads and you will make power!
But ive learned AFRs love cams with 4 degrees more duration on the exhaust side.
Post your dyno sheet when you have the tune done. Good luck!

ill post final results of the cam/dyno tune in a few weeks
