Default Blackwing Install

HELP, HELP, HELP

I think I'm the first in the history of the forum having difficulty installing a Blackwing.

The disassembly was no problem but installing the Blackwing is proving very difficult. In fact I thought that was going to be the easy part.

I have a 2000 vert for a point of reference.

Having difficulty inserting the MAF unit inside of the Blackwing mouth. The MAF unit has four bolts and a protruding notch that sits right next to one of the bolts . As a result of the notch, the MAF unit will not go into the Blackwing mouth.

I removed the bolt next to the notch and the MAF unit went right into the Blackwing mouth. Of course the bolt will not screw in straight now. Haven't given it much effort trying to get in back in yet. Because it just doesn't "feel" right to me.

If the above is right, how do I secure the hard plastic of the Blackwing mouth "around" the inserted MAF unit?

I'd appreciate any help that you can give me.

With my 03 I do not remember there being any bolts to worry about. I believe it just had a round clamp to secure it.

Here is a real nice site with information and pictures. it sounds like you need to use the adapter shown in the 8th picture down.

I installed a Blackwing in my 2004, I did not use the adapter, I had to buy the $15 piece of rubber hose.
