Default Reprogramming PCM

My car stopped running so I swapped my PCM with another one I had on the shelf. After getting the car to communicate with the other PCM it started and ran fine. The only problem is my car is a 6 speed and the donor PCM is an A4 so it is looking for all kinds of things my car does not have. Can a used '98 PCM be reprogrammed, by GM or anyone else for that matter, to another '98 VIN.

Do a search on the internet for East Coast Supercharging - get their phone number, call them and ask for Chris. I've spoken w/ Chris about reprogramming my 2001 PCM after a gear swap, and Chris has been VERY HELPFUL. He'll tell you if yours can be reprogrammed or not.

I'm not sure, but I know somebody who can tell you and he does reprogramming LS-1 edits.

Yes the Pcm's are the same. Just get Hptuners($500) and do it yourself. Don't spend the money it would cost to buy the program to have someone else do it once for you?!? It really is not that hard to do.

even though your factory PCM no-longer can run your car... it may still be readable; to the extent you can pull it's program out - then transfer the program to your replacement PCM.

This will not work for what he has.

You will need a base program for a car with a 6 speed, the transmission type is setup in the base file and cannot be changed even using HP tuner or LS-1 edit.
