i couldnt remember whethe you sohuld do the test hot or cold so i did it cold
anyway i had the headers off today nd figured it would be easy to do a compression test so i did it
the engine was not hott at all cause it was started about 6 hours earlier and then sat but thats it
i started with passenger side front plug and let the mottor spin over about 5 cycles to get oil into the rings
heres the results
p1 being passenger side nearest to cabin p4 being nearest to nose of car
p1 175
p2 173
p3 170
p4 170
d1 169
d2 170
d3 169
d4 169
this was done on a cold engine so hows my numbers look?
i thought they wer all supposed to be within 5 of eachother and im within 6
course my guage is a needle gauge and its tricky to read cause it goes from 150 to 180 with ticks in between
anyway
im trying to figure out a shaky idle issue
ive replaced the plugs and wires
it doesnt stal lbut its a rough idle that shakes the car
i thought maybe i had a cam or something cause i bought the car from a dealer used
Ok add all your numbers together then divide by eight this will give you a average. you total is 1360 so divide by eight this is 170 average. There should be no more then 10 psi diffrent in the cylinders so you are looking good but the test should be done with engine hot. but this is ok. Check for a vucuum leak

Numbers are great average is 170 apply 10% rule you can go down or up by 17psi,, for min of 153 and upper of 187.. If you use 5% as you mentioned (not 5PSI) Upper 178 lower 162 and in either case you are well within specs on both counts.. just drive on.. 99 Nassau Blue
