I bought my 99 a4 used and do not know what gears she currently has (I am guessing 2.73) Is there a way to check? If I want to upgrade to 3.42 gears, what am I looking at for gears and install? What other mods are/would be needed (TC, Trans, etc..). Thanks to everyone in this forum, you have really been helpful in my dealing with what appears to be early stages of modaholism!!!
You can crawl under the back of the car and check the getrag tag. Reprogramming the computer will also be necessary and you might as well upgrade the torque converter while the trans is down. Expect to spend $2800 or so if you use all new parts.

Do your gears and T/C at the same time and save money on labor if you install them separately.
The Yank SS3200 and 3.42 gears are a nice street combo. The Yank SS3600 with 3.42 or 3.73 gears would give you even better performance and would be a great choice if you think you might be installing a bigger cam at some point.
