Does anyone have directions on how to change out a front wheel bearing? My car vibrates like I am running 38" tires on my F250. I belive the bearings to be the culprit. I did a search but none of the links worked. Thanks for any help! B
The hub-baring subassembly has to be replaced as a unit - you cannot press a new bearing in the old hub. You can get a much better price at a parts store than you can from the dealer. Try NAPA and a couple of the others. Jake Lathem has a web page how-to but it seems to be down right now. Email me a valid email addy and I'll send you the procedure.
Quite honestly, if you have not already purchased the C5 wheel bearing hub assembly unit which includes the speed sensor (the diagram above that Patches has thoughtfully sent you is a wonderful detailed pic), you will receive a better price at the Auto Zone. Frankly, the chevy dealership replacement unit costs well over $400. Therefore, comparative shopping is always wise. Thus, along that vein, Timken is a well known worldwide provider for beaing and hub assemblies. And, the Timken wheel bearing hub assembly is available at the Auto Zone for approx. $150. The timken part number for the front wheel bearing hub assembly unit for the C5 ('97-'04) is #513139. The Timken part number for the rear C5 wheel bearing hub assembly unit is #512153. Let us know how it all works out.
Thanks edensknight! I had already done some digging and found out that same information. I am going to get them from Autozone and have them shipped directly to my house. This forum is made up of the most helpfull people on Earth!!!

This is exaclty what I need also; Thanks very much for the time and thorough explanation everyone. After chasing a similar problem for some time, I decided to take mine in and it was diagnosed with a faulty LR sensor also. This info is fantastic. The dealer wanted $380 for the part and 2 hours labor ($125 per) to do the job!
