I have a constant whiring or chirping that gets louder with increase of RPM. I've replaced the Idler pulley, the Tensioner, and the belt (main belt). After the belt and tensioner were changed the sound drastically subsided; however it has semmed to returned about two weeks later. Now it seems that the sound is coming from the harmonic balancer or dampener. The sound resembles a light ticking sound and it is driving me nuts. Anyone had this problem before. By the way its a 2000 auto coupe with abot 52000 on the odometer. Any help or experience would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
anyone have an idea, I sure don't think replacing the dampener motor in car is going to be easy. So if you have another idea that I may try first please let me know.
thanks

Have you checked the Alternator? The Whirring sound is a clue that it may be the alternator going south.give it a try.It won't hurt.Loosen the belt,if the noise stops your are on the right track.
I remember having to replace the harmonic balancer on my '84. If they go bad they can slip back against the timing chain cover and make a noise. A big noise if they rub thru' the cover and you lose your oil before you know it!!
A/C compressor should also be checked, but I would make sure you check the dampener, that is the one that will do a lot of damage if it goes. There is a GP on the underdrive units going on right now if you need one.
