Default Oil Pressure?

What is the normal or average oil pressure on a 99 6 Speed Coupe at idle? Mine is 18 psi @ 750 rpms. Is that normal, I have 58,000 miles and stays in the garage most of the time. Oil Life reads 62% so I dont know. I smell antifreeze every once and a while and my temp is 230 degrees at idle on a hot summer day. Can anyone help me on this? I have already replaced the oil sending unit on the back of the motor.

I have a 99 MN6. At idle, cold around 40 PSI. Increase RPM to 3k or above and it goes up to around 50 PSI.

It never drops below 35 PSI, hot or cold. I would think 15 lbs is a little on the low side. Just IMO. Not sure what specs are for it.

I read somewhere that GM recommends 10 psi/1000 rpm. I am trying to find the link.

We always use the same rule of thumb that Smokey Yunick used,
10 psi of oil pressure for every 1000 rpm.

Worked fine on 10,500+ rpm race motors, and works fine on the street.

What oil do you use? If you are using Mobil-1, try switching to Amsoil 5W-30 or German Castrol 0W-30 and see if you get a little more pressure. Mobil-1 is a good oil, but at 100 degrees C it has a viscosity of 10 Cst, which is at the bottom of the range for a 30 weight oil. Amsoil or German Castrol are just under 12 Cst which is at the upper end of the range. You might find a little higher oil pressure with these oils. Also, what oil filter do you run. Some are more restrictive than others, so your choice of oil and filter may play a small role in you final pressure. Of course if there are mechanical issues, than more in depth corrections would be required.

I am using mobil 1 and fram oil filter. I think the fram oil filter is contributing to the low pressure and the heat too, Its been in the mid 90s all week. I cranked it up last night and it had 40 psi cold. So I think mechanically its OK, But Ill try Amsoil and a better filter and see if that helps. Thank You very much for the very helpful information.
