Default Help... Found a Loose Bolt

Ok... I kept hearing and feeling like something was hitting my driveshaft.. well C5's dont have drive shafts.. So I raised the car and found a bolt sticking out of the 3/4" hole where my Stall Converter Case is located. (rear of car)

The bolt was just loose.. and I pulled it out.. The bolt is around 2" long with a T50 torx head.. and its black..

Anyone know anything about this bolt..

Is it possible someone stuck a bolt in the TC access hole where a plug normally goes? I'm not as familiar with the A4 as M6 but it looks similar to this.

Thats the hole it came out of... But, no i dont think its possible someone stuck it in there... I would have heard the bolt hitting the TC and all the moving parts alot sooner than I did..

That looks like it might be one of the bolts that hold the prop shaft in the torque tube, sounds like it might be time to drop the tranny.

Also, there are 7 M8x1.25x60mm bolts that hold the tranny pump in. Sounds like the size you are describing. As runamuk said, sounds like time to drop the tranny.

The only reason I don't think it's one of those is because there isn't enough room for that bolt to come out with the torque converter installed but there is a ton of room between the flex plate/torque converter and the back face of the torque tube.

Hmmmm

On the opposite side of the hole, where I found the bolt is an access panel (rubber boot cover). I removed that and looked... All the bolts that hold the TC to the Torque Tube are there...(at least it looks that way)...

Looks like the tranny will have to be dropped.. Just wish I knew for sure where this bolt was from..

Item 6 on some cars (I can't remember if it's older model or newer) has been changed to bolts.

Patches what year(s) is this diagram for?

True. That is for an '02. Since the poster doesn't list his MY, I pulled mine up. Here is one for a '98 which has the different tt setup. A buddy and I pulled one of these apart a couple of months ago to try and salvage the couplings. The bolts were a bear to loosen. They used a ton of loctite at the factory.

Ok Thats it, the older cars had the bolts and I believe the changeover happened in 01 (like the other major changes). I tried to break loose one of the bellhousing bolts on a tranny recently (item 94 in your exploded view of the transmission) and I broke my torx bit thats how much locktight those have also.

The factory uses the locktite to ensure the bolts don't back out which is why I found it very odd that he found a bolt where he did and I'd be curious to know how many more are loose.

Well the Trans has been dropped before, so I'm think'n that locktight might now have been put back on.. I just hope that none of the other bolts are loose..
