Default Door panel repairs!!

I tried to search for this but found nothing.

My 98 door panel covering is ungluing from top to the arm rest. Is there a fix for this. I check the price of new door panels and the are big $$$. Is this a common problem? If so where can I get new/Used ones at a decent price? Thanks. Mike

n01g8tor,

I wanted to let you know I had the same problem with my door panels and here is how I fixed them.

I have pewter interior with black door panels. I bought the accented arm rest from Ecklers which are padded in the pewter color. Then I took my car to a recommeded upholstery shop and they cut the material on the door panel arm rest. He then used a upolstery glue and roled the material down the way it was before it came loose. By cutting a slit in the material it took the pressure off and which allowed it to lay flat. He then put on the padded arm rest that I had bought. This actually look really good since it accents the door. I also purchased the matching door pulls as well. It looks better than it did when it was new.

The total cost for the parts and labor was around $200.00 which I am sure is cheaper than new or used door panels. I hope I explained it good enough. Sorry I have no pictures for you to see.

Good Luck

kking,

If i am to understand this...They cut the material on the arm rest and I assume that they reached inside the slit/hole and smeared the glue on the inside...then pressed the material down...then installed the arm rests. Is this right? Thank you for the info.

n01g8tor,

That is exactly what they did. This allowed the material to be glued down smooth and the door accent that I put on covered up the slit. This is the only way I could figure out how to do it without replacing the whole door panel. It actually worked out quite well and looks good.

I hope this solution helps.

The door panels on these cars aren't worthy of a Yugo.

You might try Gene's Kar shop, he usually has good deals on this stuff used. His link is on vendor ads here.

My 97 was bubbled a little when I purchased it so I bought a couple like new used ones off ebay. Mine are black and are not bubbled too bad. I would sell them cheaply if any of you would be interested. They are black in color. Send me an email if interested.

BINGO!! I got a set from Gene and they were perfect! Didn't cost as much as you would think, and I still have my old ones that I can "mod" for stereo stuff. Gene has what you need, and is GREAT to deal with!
