I am doing some research and would like to hear any comments relating to headers, and X pipes....what you think is good, bad, and maybe something you would like to see....
Also what you paid or thoughts on pricing would be valuable info as well.
LG Pro Long Tubes! Great sound and huge perfomance increase. I gained 35 RWHP, 33 RWT, and lost .4 in the 1/4 and gained over 4 MPH Throttle response got way crisper too (nothing wrong with it before) and the torq below the curve is awesome too. They sound great too with my Borlas too, much better idle and they roar @ WOT. The price was around $1500 I think and the best mod yet! I should have done this day one as it is a realy great mod. There is a GP going on now too I think. Give Matt or Lou a call and they will take great care of you!

I have the dynatech long tubes. The fit is great, the headers come very well packaged, and they sound amazing coupled with an aftermarket catback exhaust. The most reputable brands are LG motorsports, Kooks, dynatechs, stainless works. You generally dont hear about people having any problems with these brands. It really comes down to your price range. If you want the ultimate performance, go with the LG system. The price is $1800 with catalytic converters not including shipping. Occasionally they run a group purchase or have sales. The dynatechs were considerably cheaper, only $1300 with cats and you really dont sacrifice a whole lot of performance. maybe a few hp. the kooks are also in the less expensive range, but the primary manifolds are not as long as the dynatechs or LGs (which are 32 inches), so you may sacrifice some torque. If you are a driver that wants a boost in performance and a great sound within a budget I would steer you toward the dynatechs.
I finally went with the LG's, they are great...I have no complaints at all and agree with the added HP and TQ gains after the install, what a difference!
As you can see, LG is the way to go. Yes they do cost more, but that is for one reason, it is worth it! I have the LG setup with Cats and Corsa Indies. Awesome sound and performance! Good Luck
QTP's here. Easy install, only stainless Tri-Y, good low end power increase, flat up top, O2 sensors go right back in the same place, no codes, good fit. Not much else I can say.
HP increase with any header, will depend on how lean you let the tuner get. I got 25 HP peak, but had more with a leaner mixture. Make sure you do your research

I have Kook's w/high flow cats, x-pipe and Corsa cat-back. Excellent fit/finish. Stock oxy sensors bolt right up and no codes. Very solid and well made. Very happy with them.
LG's, Dynatech, Stainless Works also excellent choices. Not a real loser in the bunch. The LG's seem to generally have the best reputation, though a little higher in the price range for some.
Just installed LGM's last night and this morning. Other than typical header/exhaust wrestling match, they went in great, fit great, look great, sound great, and feel great!

What altitude do you race at? 117mph seems a bit slow for all those mods.
Sort of off topic but related to my original request....can someone provide me with a picture of the underside of a roughly 98 C5, specifically showing the STOCK exhaust system? I want to make sure mine is stock and I am not sure....

Can't help with the pix but if you have a "one piece" center section from the factory exhaust manifolds back, then it is probably stock. By "one piece" I mean that everything in the "center section" is welded together. No clamps anywhere. Also, if your crossover is in an "H" configuration, it is probably stock. Remember, it is possible to change out just the rear portion of the center section and install an "X" style crossover after the cats. The exhaust manifolds themselves of course will be rather obvious if they are the stockers.
If you're going full boogey on the headers etc, I would recommend getting high flow cats with whoever's x-pipe that you're buying from.
BTW, the install on the header can vary a little from brand to brand, but it is not uncommon to have to raise one side of the engine (a little) at a time in order to install. It's not necessarily difficult but can be a little on the time consuming side since you're removing various accessories such as starter, alternator, spark plugs, ECT sensor, steering shaft coupler, etc. HTH
Thanks, much appreciated FRC. The reason for the questions is we are going to introduce new longtube headers to the market for the C5 and my 98 is the test car.
Don't be messing with headers, get those headlights done! Anyway, here is a 2001 Z06 factory system beside a LG system. Your converters and manifolds may be a little different but the H pipe should be close to this. If your going to do headers get you a set of LG and try to improve on those. They seem to work really nice and lots of people has gotten really good numbers on the dyno with them. Make sure you use 100% stainless steel. I was disappointed in my LG when I found out the AIR tube flanges, O2 bungs, and rear flanges where not stainless. Well, they may be a really low grade of stainless but a magnet sticks to them and they do rust so I think they are plain mild steel. Also, good quality is important. Again I was disappointed with the welding on my LG headers. I know stainless is not easy to weld and I'm no welder but I'm sure I could have done a better job on most os the welds on my headers. Maybe the guy welding was new but there was places where they blew through the pipes and just welded them up and ground them down leaving them kind of patched up looking. I was really impressed with the fit and easy install of the LG system and they do sound good!

...LG Pro LT Header System w/RT Cats & Borla Stingers

With proven more HP, as well as more low-end torque. Plus, you get what you pay for ... mo $$$ = mo speed
If you have the money go with the LG headers. I just got mine in and they were real easy to install. I did everything on jackstands in my driveway. I will know what I gained when I get the car tuned at Futral in August.

Thanks thats exactly what I was looking for. I am working on both as fast as I can. I will have pics shortly.
