Today I installed a Z-06 rear exhaust and a Blackwing in my 04 CE Vert. Followed instructions. When I unplugged the MAF sensor plug I misplaced the small grey insert. Pulled the plastic cover backs from the valve covers thinking it might of fallen there. This is the only problem I encountered. Now when I took the car out for a spin and looked at the gauges about 4 miles down the road the temp gauge was registering all the way over. Brought back and let set about 10 minutes. Checked the small fuse and the Maxi for the cooling fans. Both were OK. The fans did come on. When I started back up the temp registered about 200 then immediately went to 260 again. Are the temp sensors behind the covers?. If so does it sound like I grounded something out. I really do not think the car is this hot. If I take it in to the dealer do I have to worry about him hasseling me over the Blackwing. Thanks.
The grey plastic piece is just a security lock for that plug, if you can't find it it will not really hurt you.
I had a friend who had the same coolant temp problem you have and I went over and changed the sensor, a couple days later he told me that it was still going to the max reading so I looked it up in the service manual and it told us to change the instrument cluster.
Basically the coolant temp sensor in the left side cylinder head sends it's signal to the PCM and the temp that is displayed on the IPC comes from the PCM, so if the PCM were sending a 260 degree temp you'd have a check engien light on and probably a few codes also.
