Default long tube headers and cats

Hi:

I am ready to buy a set of long tube headers for my 99 in CA. I was wondering
if it is necessary to buy high-flowing cats as well, or could I use the
stock converters? What would be the consequences of doing either?
I want to keep as low profile as I can with the
CA emissions.
Thanks.

I have purchased so called "high flow" cats and installed them to only find out that they did not even flow as well as stock 99 cats. If you are gonna get some high flow cats, then I would get them from LG motorsport. Get the Randon Tech metal matrix cats. Most otehr brands don't flow as good as stock cats. If you notice, the 99 does not have "pup cats" like 2001 and newer C-5s. Also stock OEM cats are very wide and have a lot of cross sectional area, the only drawback is that they are ceramic and don't flow as well as the Metal matrix, but they do flow as well as other aftermarket ceramic cats. LG motorsports sell the highest flowing metal matrix cats on the market. If money is no concern, then I would go the LG long tubes as well.

I retained the stock cats when I had headers installed. Not certain, but I think if you install long tubes, as I did, the pup-cats will have to go. I still pass inspection in Texas without the pup-cats. Oh, I also got respectable power and torque increases.

Bellanger headers are made to be mated with the stock system, but I think they need welding. They are long tube Tri-Y's.

Thanks for the info. LGs sound good.

Are you asking me? I have BBK shortys because I wanted to stay smog legal.I am thinking about going long tubes, but everytime you do clutch work, you need to drop the LTs.

I have Jet-Hot. I have to tell you though, they came with a slip-fit coupling and in order to get a proper fit I had flanges put on. I understand that Jet-Hot has addressed the problem I had.
