I hope someone has some experience with this one.
My 2000 coupe is in need of some realignment of Frame Horn up front.
I had to Torch cut a section to relieve stress, but now it's time too stitch her back together. And it dawned on me about some past experience a friend had were the computer was disconnected.
If someone has knowledge, does it matter if it's AC welded or DC welded.
My inquiring mind needs to know.
Thanks
I would NOT run the welding leads near the PCM/BCM computer ! They are in the passengers fender and the passengers foot well. I would also disconnect the battery. Apply the welder ground as close to the weld repair as possible. With all of those precautions, you should be fine!
As you can see below I have done a LOT of welding on a C5 as well as lots of other cars and trucks. I have never unhooked a battery or computer and to date have never had any problems. The main thing to make sure you do when welding is to ground your welder to the part you are welding. Like don't clamp your welder ground on the frame when your going to weld on the exhaust, that can get ugly. If your welding the exhaust ground to the exhaust, if your welding the frame ground to the frame. And like Bill said, ground close to where your welding. Another thing to be careful about while welding is not to have anything else AC powered plugged into the car while welding. Like a battery charger or any thing else. It is possible to get a voltage differential through the building power, specially if they are on different legs of the building power.
