Jason

I have always been fascinated by this sort of advertising tack.

Out of curiosity, just WHY is the price "too low to post"?

Is it that much of a 'secret' that anyone you tell must swear not to reveal it to anyone else, OR else?

Most of the time I get suckered into sending an email or PM and find that the price is good but not great. Oh well!

mfg's sometimes wont allow vendors to post prices too far (or sometimes any, in the case of AFR) below their "suggested" mfg's price. this is common in the electronics industry as well.

Some items are price protected by the manufactor. The manufactor tells all vendors what the min selling price is. It is done this way to make sure a min profit is built into the selling price by the manufactor. That way the small time vendor can still sell the product and compete with the big vendor. The manufactor does this so that when they are attempting to build a dealer network, it makes it easy for them to assure the vendor they will ALWAYS be making $ when they sell that product. The vendor likes it, cuz they have a built in HIGH profit margin. You will tend to learn that products that are price protected also tend to be VERY hyped by the vendors as the BEST product there is. That way they can sell the product with the mo$t profit.

Well after a while the larger vendors want to do something to set them apart from other vendors so they run these "to low to post price sales"...... It's a way to skirt just inside the sales agreement the vendor has with the manufactor.

I happen to be looking fo some headers so I will send a PM and see just how low this GREAT sale is. I assume it is the same price the other vendors are selling at.

Doesn't that practice border on 'anti-trust' laws against price fixing and the like? Almost sounds as though it's a brazen attempt (on the part of the mfg's) to stifle competition.

ehh, maybe...but the mfg is ALLOWING a vendor to sell their product and allowing them to purchase a large quantity at a reduced cost, so its just part of the deal that they have to sell them for a certain price

anyways, this thread really shouldnt be about why they have to do it this way, it's completly legal and common practice in many industries.

now buy some headers people
