Been a while since I replaced mine, but as I recall it's on the right-hand side of the trans.. Hard to miss, it's the only one on the side w/ wiring, unless you have a Z06, then you have wires coming out of the fill plug on the other side as well.

And if the switch doesn't fix it, don't panic; it's typical for the switch to short and take out the associated fuse (only for this circuit.. The backup lights will still flash as you described w/ this fuse blown). Can't remember the fuse #, but I'm sure someone here will.

Switch is on the passenger side on the middle of the tranny. Micro-relay #38 in the underhood fuse panel. Also related is fuse #2 for the Approach Lights in the underhood fuse panel.

Default Automatic backup light switch location

I checked all of the fuses and relay and all is good. Can't find anywhere online where the backup light switch is on the automatic transmission. I have no backup lights. Bought the switch $70 dollars compared to the manual one that was $10.

For the automatic, it is on the drivers side of the trans and is part of the Park Neutral switch.
You have to disconnect the shift cable and lever from the side of the trans. It does help to take the drivers side cat back off (muffler).

I have an '00 FRC and did my trans fluid over the weekend and saw the wired connector/fill plug. Do all manual C5's have this? Its looking at trans fluid temperature?
