Default radiator drain plug question

I just installed a 160 degree thermostat and when i went to drain some fluid out of the radiartor the white cap just kept on turning without draining any fluid...i pried it out and the whole drain (small plastic pipe with oring on it) came right out easily and i drained the coolant that way....

now im worried that something might have broken off the drain and just pushing it back in might be a bad thing and im worried that it will shoot out under pressure, i just had the car all warmed up and took it for a high rpm run with no problems,

question is, has anyone fully removed the radiator drain on the radiator and does it just pop back in...

thanks
Jack

You broke it and need a new one. It only turns 90 degrees and you pull it out. You broke pins off of it.

I'm not sure if you really broke it or not. I'm wondering if when you turn it CCW 90 degrees, if it doesn't move rearward a bit on it's own. Kind of a cam action, and if you continue to turn it, it just rotates without loosening any more. I know that in order to get mine completly out, I used some small needle nosed pliers to pull it straight back and out (after turning 90 degrees CCW). In order to re-install it, you use your 1/4" drive nutdriver, push it straight in until it stops, then rotate CW 90 degrees. Unless you have loose broken pieces that came out or fell on the floor, you may not have really broken it at all. Check it out. HTH

That plug is a pain in the azzzzz

I could hardly turn the darn thing... I though I was going to strip
out hole on the valve. The plastic was flexing and bending.

picked one up at a napa store on sunday...its in those "help" packages and the number is 61133 , the napa store was able to cross reference the numbers, in case anyone needs one, and this has a little hand tang so you can turn it with your fingers or a pair of plyers,,,,also the little tang is metal, not plastic like the one i broke off

And I'm sure it was waaay cheaper than a dealer's price would have been too!
