Default Best Headers for a 99 FRC

I have a 99frc and have done a vararam mod, I have also removed my maf screen and have added the TI Z06 exhaust. I also want to add the LS6 intake and get a good set of headers that will give me the best RWHP possible. I know there are KOOKS, LG, TPIS. DYNAMAXX, what makes one brand better or are they equal in HP gain. Please help?

There is only one top tog in the business. Kooks are officially the best in the world.

if you dont use Kooks, your not using the best!

I am really please with the LG headers on my Z06. I will be heading to the dyno on the 20th. I know my car did 343rwhp before the headers.

The Dynatechs are fine. The LGM's are also a very good header.

$100 / hp. How fast do you want to go?

There is still NO header with more power under the curve nor at the top on any engine below 427 cu in. We got 565rwhp on a daily driver 427 cu in with our headera and insane torque at 570 rwtq. That is as good as it gets with a 427 sans one or two all out engines in America.

On a 346 up to 427 cu in, we have the most powerful Corvette headers on the planet. 346 cu in with 535 rwhp 482rwtq using out headers to power the fastest trap speed in america for a 346 normally aspirated engine in a Corvette.

And in the only drag race that these headers bumped heads in South Carolina, the LG headers took top honors.

Regardless;

Start with these features:

$1395 for the off road set comes with 3" x pipe and 3" rear pipes plus 3" off road pipes for that price. (Headers, X pipe and rear pipes) not just headers, and all stainless.

Then:

*** 304 stainless steel pipes all the way back to your mufflers. No cutting of your stock system.

*** 3" Merge collector. Same as used on our race winning C6 race car.

*** Full 3" X pipe that can either connect to 3" metal matrix cats or off road pipes made so you can change to and from cats easily.

*** full 3" pipes supplied to connect to your stock or aftermarket mufflers.

*** 32" primary tubes for good Low end torque. And the Merge collector and 3" X pipe system help the top end flow to achieve the same high rpm results as shorter headers while gaining in the low end where most people run on a daily basis.

*** Easy installation without any cutting and without having to lift the engine off the mounts.

*** Metal matrix cats flow almost double what ceramic cats flow. Metal cats lose about 4-8 hp while ceramic cats lose 10-14 hp. that is why we only use Metal matrix cats.

If there were a better all around design, we would make them and use them on our race car and call them LG PRo Long Tube headers. But we have the most hp and highest top speed at each race we go to.

The only improvement that we could make is to use $800 Burns stainless merge collectors which are not feasable for street cars because of their cost. We (Borla) build(s) our headers with a stamped Merge Collector so we could keep the cost down. The Merge collectors help scavange the exhaust to help pull the next cylinder's exhaust and thus help fill the chamber. It works.

I hope this helps clear the air.

Thanks
Lou Gigliotti LGM

Having had both and now running LG's I would have to say LG's because of the higher tq under the curve.

Plus the bonus of the ease of install over the Kooks.

Both headers are very well made, it really just boils down to your needs and or wants.

Good luck on your choice.

There are only 2 true long tubes on the market That I have seen, that is the Dynatechs, and the LGs, the rest of so called long tubes are not that long at all if you look at the pictures closely. The best merge collectors I have seen are Burns stainless colectors for custom nascar headers...the LGs are the closest thing I have seen to Burns stainless collectors. The only improvment that Burns stainless could make to their headers that I can really is to make them out of Hastelloy X. They use Inco 625 which is on the heavy side, but good for very high heat. Hastelloy X- is very good for high heat but even lighter and can be rolled to very thin tubing sizes and very strong to resist vibration. would classify most so called LTs as mid length headers.
If money was no object....I would go LGs and my second choice would be Dynatechs for a C-5.

I love my LGs and have not had any other so I can only speak of the LGs. Something not posted is the support LG, Lou and his crew give. I can tell you from my personaly experiance, that LG has their act together, and are very proactive and customer oriented. Matt has been awesome with all my purchases and questions and have realy went the extra mile to ensure I got what I needed and fast.

BLUFF (bottom line up front do we use that here?) I gained over 4 MPH and lost just over .4 with the only change being LG Pro LT and a tune. Same 60', same BFG DRs, and same sorry *** driver, ME There is a great post about C5 specs and the weight of the headers is listed too, LG and the dynatech I think and the LG are 40lbs lighter I think? Great headers and I wish I would have done it and bought them as soon as I bought my car. Go for it!
