I recently got back from a weekend trip to michigan, on the way there I threw out my passenger side O2 sensor. After getting it fixed by a buddy I made the trip home fine.
I started the car up the next day after work and my "low oil level" message came up on the display. I checked the oil and it was fine. I then drained it and put 7 qts of new oil in just to check that off the list of possibilities. The car was running extremely rich to later find out that I can not get the car to go into closed loop. I'm assuming it has something to do with the low oil sensor issue. I bought a new sensor and have just installed it, My problem now is I still have the low oil level message and it will not go away.
Is there something I need to do to clear this message. Or is there a problem with my new sensor? Has anyone ever ran into this problem before.
It sounds like there is a problem with the 02 sensor that was installed, there are a few things that the PCM looks at before it goes into closed loop which is mainly the engine coolant temp.
Which 02 sensor went out, the front or rear?
The rear's are just there for emissions purposes to show the catalytic converters are working and the fronts control the AFR in closed loop mode, I should also say that the right 02 sensor is very close to the low oil level sensor so maybe your friend bumped the sensor or snagged a wire so raise the car up and look on the right side of the oil pan towards the back and you'll see it.
I did all the work fixing the car. The oil sensor was fine until I got home after a 6 hr trip. I've just replaced both O2 sensors (fronts) and replaced the oil level sensor. Lastnight I disconnected the battery and when I reattached it everything was fine. Again today when I started it and drove it to make sure it went into closed loop it did. the light stayed off. Now after letting it sit and starting it again the "low oil level" message re appeared. Anyone know the resistance of the sensor when working properly so I can get a resistor and make this this run fine.
I have 7 Qt's of oil in the car. Could that be a problem?
Check to make sure that your oil pump is not defective. An oil pressure test should be performed. I experienced this same situation, replaced the oil sensor, changed the oil and filter same scenario. End result, the oil pump was cracked and had to be replaced. This requires the removal of the engine.

Good Luck
He has an oil level problem not an oil pressure problem, these are 2 different sensors

A damaged oil pump does not require engine removal.
On to the original question;
I've seen it posted more than once on this forum that once a "low oil" condition is triggered, many engine cycles (start-stop-start) may be required before the condition will clear. One fellow parked his car on a hill, the low oil condition triggered and it didn’t clear until a week later, all on its own.
Either that, or the wiring harness / connect to this sensor was damaged during O2 sensor replacement.
