Default leaking FAST? what are the symtoms?

My C5R has a FAST, I think it is leaking, and plan to remove and reinstall with new gaskets. I hadn't herd of the warp problem. Do they
tend to warp after install due to heat cycling, or only when factory new?

I plan to take the car for a retune, but want to eliminate the easy stuff, plugs, leaks, test coils, wires etc.

Make sure there wasn't a washer left under the intake from the bolts used to hold it together for shipping. They tend to stick to the intake and can be missed easily.

Thanks Nick, the intake has been off a few times now and NEW GASKETS were added but the leak persists. I also made sure a washer or a nut was not left on the intake. Let me just warn you guys about this intake, I talked to a shop today(who shall stay anonymous) who said that EVERY Fast intake he installed has been warped to one degree or another!!!! Nice huh? I called Fast today and they said that they have only had 3 intakes returned that were faulty. The guy also said he was not aware of this problem!!!!!!!

Ok, latest update. Livernois had to torque this thing to 15ft/lbs to get it to seal. Unfortunately, the tuner was not in today to verify that the leak has been repaired. So, hopefully tomorrow I will have my car back and some dyno numbers. (With the leak and inaccurate tune it put down 445/400) AFR 205's(milled for 11:1 comp.) F13 on 112 LSA, Fast 90mm with a ported LS2 t.b., LG headers w/o cats, Vararam, ASP crank pulley. I am hoping for 455/415, we'll see.

thanks for asking this question and putting up with some of the crap you got from other people. The whole discussion has been very helpfull to me in desiding whether to purchase the FAST intake for my 2004 C5. I didn't know FAST had quality issues...

Thanks

Glad I could help, unfortunately these intakes perform so well that it really makes for a tough decision. High quality or high performance, for that ungodly price no one should have to choose. By the way, don't call FAST and ask them about this issue because they say this is new to them.

I have one of these on my car too. How do you know if it is leaking. Can you hear it?? Or is it only deduced by a poor dyno result??

I reused mine with ~69k looked perfect. They are O-ring type and dont leak. I have the FAST 90. I have known many people to reuse them with ZERO probs...

I had no idea it was leaking by listening to it, once the tuner had it plugged into his software he saw that it was adding 25% more fuel than it should of, therefore tipping them off to a vacuum leak. They sprayed brake cleaner near the intake and the motor would die. By the way, my dyno result was not that poor, 445/400 with an inaccurate tune and a substantial vacuum leak. This is why I am worried for all the guys out there who are running around with a FAST intake and no professional tune!!!!!!!!!

Well now that we have downplayed the gasket thing I have to admit I had the same leaks with new gaskets and had really bogus LTFTs, so after removing the damn intake several times I cranked it down well beyond the recommended torque and cured the leaks. I am not saying this is the proper fix, but it did work for me. It was then, about eight months ago, that I discovered this is not unusual and there is no cure-all fix. The MAP sensor will probably fail as well due to it impacting the firewall when the engine torques over.

You read my mind. That is what I was thinking.

It sucks to pay 700+ of your hard earned dollars and not get a decent product. I hate all these vendors that do that.

Put an elbow fitting in place of the Map sensor and attach tubing long enough to move the Map sensor to the side of the intake manifold.

gojo - I'll be pulling my Fast intake soon. I guess I should buy a new MAP sensor. Did you mount yours off to the side - with a tube??

Ok so is a fast still a good buy even though it has all the warping problems? What do you do if you get one that has been warped?

It's a gamble, an $800.00 plus gamble. If this thing ever seals I will let you all know how it was done, Livernois called and said it is STILL LEAKING, they suggested to scrap it for an LS2, but I'm in too deep now. THE POINT THAT NEEDS TO BE MADE IS, should I have to deal with all of this when I paid a king's ransom for the thing? As much as I have invested in this thing I could adopt a child from a third-world country.
Fast called me and said they would send me a new intake but would charge my credit card for one and if they determined it was bad then they would refund my money, if not I would be charged for the new intake also. Put yourself in my shoes, if they say they don't know anything about warped intakes what makes you think that they are going to admit to a defective one I send them???????????????

JAY FROM FAST, READ THIS AND PUT YOURSELF IN MY SHOES!!!!!!!!!!

Send it back and try to get another but forget the LS2. Been there, and you would be better off with a LS6 and a ported TB (Shaner or like).
